Prospect Info: All-Purpose Prospect Thread v17.0

He wasn't in the lineup today. I turned the game on about a minute late and saw Zernov skating with Mikhailis and Silantyev - so I watched a few line changes and didn't see him on the ice. So I thought maybe he got a major penalty or ejected but when I checked the live summary and lineup - he wasn't. I just went and checked again and now the scoring summary has him picking up a secondary assist but he's still not listed in the lineup. Weird!
So you're saying he's so good he picks up points from the press box?!

Nah .... probably not quite that good.

Here's the box score i use: it shows him getting the second assist on Joseph's goal at 17:21 of the 3rd period but he isn't listed in the lineup and I didn't see him on the ice in the 15 minutes I watched. What happened - did he join the game late?

If Lardis was a prospect for a Canadian team we would be hearing him talked about as going top 10 in a 2023 redraft. But Hawks have no impact forwards in pipeline. Just the highest p/gp player in the AHL, the top scorer in the KHL, and the top scorer in the CHL and like 6 hobey baker candidates. Damn near a continental sweep.

Couldn’t agree more. Compare him to Easton Cowan for instance. One was touted as the savior of team Canada and is considered a top prospect. One was not even invited to the selection camp.

Yet Lardis is blowing Cowan out of the water this year. That’s life as a Hawks fan, all of our prospects seem to be ignored, from HF to elsewhere.

While at the same time being ignored or discounted by Hawks fans.

Lardis is certainly an interesting prospect. If he translates to the pro game, then we’re golden.

Can anyone help me with an EP account or whatever tool… I’d like to know the hit rate for Goal per Game CHLers in their U20 season. What percentage became NHL players and what percentage became stars?

I wouldn't go that far on Lardis. I'm happy to see his numbers in the OHL but I want to see production in the pros before getting excited. That said, when I watch the tape, I see Patrick Sharp in his game.

And few teams have more than 1 bona fide impact forward in their pipeline anyway. Like the Hawks, they have a bunch that could be great but we don't know. The problem is the Hawks don't have anyone up on the big club other than Bedard that we're sure will put pucks in the net.

A little WJC retroactive

A shift-by-shift of Moore at the WJC vs Czech Republic courtesy of Chicago Prospects.

Special teams have been good for this years Hawks. 5x5 has been god awful. Moore should be one of the players that ends/reduces those extended D zone clusterF#%ks that happen so often.

You're not accounting for the Maple Leaf effect, where, on the strength of being a Leaf prospect Cowan is automatically a great bronze God of all that is hockey.... in the minds of the Canadian hockey press anyway.

Playing on the correct side of the puck, constant hustle and very high motor, always harassing the opponent…he’s going to be a fan favorite, but will likely disappoint with lowish point totals.

I don't even like Cowan much as a prospect but he's pretty clearly a better one than Lardis.

Lardis has produced 1.50 PpG over the last two seasons (including this one), while Cowan has produced 1.65 PpG. Cowan is more competitive around the net, gets to the middle more, can be an effective two-way player. He was miscast at the WJC as some elite talent that should have been playing on Canada's top line/as a go-to guy, but he's still a tier above Lardis as a prospect no doubt.

100%

You also must discount Cowan because he plays for tge London Knights...best deepest most talented team inthe entire OHL= #1 st place in the Western Conference and in fact 1st place in the entire OHL...Cowan basically pkaying on an akl-star team...so lots of "go to " guys..not tge top star "carrying" his tean...Lardis only with a FEW others ..not with so many others akso doing heavy lifting for London relied on to score.

Also London is the only team in the League whose win% is over .800...(at a ridiculous. 833)...compare to Lardis 's team,Brantford which is ONLY 5th in the Eastern Cobference standings and justca .609 win% ..Also the Eastern Conference is tge more competitive COnference ...having 6 teams above 60%compared to the Western Conference where only 3 teams are above that mark...and there are a lot more .500 teams in the east too.

So Cowan not only pkays for a stacked top of the League team,he also players more games vs. more of the weakest competition.

So what Lardis is doing carrying his team with less talent depth in support abd against more competitive teams is really special when you compare "go to guy" situations.

If there is one area of co corn for Lardis it is his defense...still positivev in the plus/minus but would like to see a higher positive if only his defending was better.. WIll need to improve in this aspect to play in the Show ..but hevisxa deadly sniper for sure.

Cowan had a big year last year, but is only 12th in goals/20th in OHL PPG this year. He's a fine prospect just unlikely to be a potential star.

Roman Kantserov has really cooled off...poi tless again today(4shog)...so thatvis 0goals 2a onlybinlsstv5GP...in factbonly 2g (5a) lsdt 10GP...so goal scoring really has tapered off.. Hope he comes put of this "slump".

Cowan is not a "clearly better prospect" then Lardis. Never was really. Two different type of players. Lardis more skilled with better instincts but Cowan with that dog on a bone style of play. Just depends on what's more appealing to you. Going into the 2023 draft Lardis was ahead in most scouting publications but Cowan ended up being chosen first so for sure the Maple Leafs preferred Cowan but a lot of other teams may have like Lardis better. Personally I like Lardis better as a fit for the Hawks at this point in time. We could certainly use the goals he appears to specialize in manufacturing.
Not to say Lardis would have done any better but Cowan sure was a disappointment in his role for Team Canada at the recent WJC. Not entirely his fault as he never should have been on the first line and counted upon for his offense in the first place. He would have been much more effective in an energy role.
Having said that, both Cowan and Lardis, have a heck of a lot of work to put in to get to the next level.
It'll be interesting to compare the damage they both do in the AHL next year when they're with new teams and teammates.
