All-Purpose Prospect Thread v17.0

I would not trade much value for his rights when he can walk after next year.
The point is to sign him now (using the incentive of playing some NHL games and burning a year as a carrot). Presumably they would not make the trade without being sure that he would sign now

I would be happy to trade one of the young LHD (other than Vlasic) for Howard. I've seen enough from Vlasic, Levshunov, and Rinzel to be pretty confident they will be blueline anchors. Korchinski still has sky-high potential so I get why some are hesitant to move him. I'd really think about it though. Howard is likely going to be a very good middle six guy at least and has potential to be more. If KK isn't on the powerplay or PK, what is his marginal improvement over the likes of Kaiser or EDM? Vs. the marginal improvement of Howard over other forward prospects in the pool.

Maybe KK blooms in Tampa's system and you look like an idiot. I'd certainly prefer to trade one of the others if it gets the job done (though I do love how Kaiser is playing lately). A move is coming soon one way or another

The game didn't start well for Brantford with Oshawa jumping out to a 2-0 lead and jumping was the operative word because they were out-quicking them and had them back on their heels. The score was 0-2 after the 1st period and then Brantford's starting goalie (Leenders) tweaked something early in the 2nd and had to be replaced by the backup goalie who was coming off an injury and hadn't played in almost a month.

But then Brantford kicked into gear and outscored Oshawa 5-0 for a 5-2 win. Lardis now has 8 goals and 4 assists in 6 playoff games. Oshawa played without one of their big guns - Beckett Sennecke - Anaheim's 1st round pick last year - #3 overall.

At this point I don’t think there’s any way Lardis gets traded unless the package is heavily weighted for the Hawks. He’s a goalscorer and skates well. At the combine he proved to be extremely physically fit. Can’t see a scenario where he’s not given a top six spot first at Rockford (but could surprise at camp) to see if he translates to the pro game.

Lardis pretty much has DeBrincat value right before his NHL debut

This is the first year I've bit the bullet and got CHL TV but just did the OHL package. Lardis's release, puck handling and speed are really exciting. However watching him in D zone he usually glides around and does not take many strides. He also cheats a lot for offense and jumps the zone early. For these reasons I think he will score a lot of goals but will take a few years in rockford, hopefully learns some pro habits or can at least outscore his deficiencies at the NHL level. Vanacker plays a very active pro style game on the other hand and is doing a lot of work on backcheck and retrieving pucks. He is not featured too much on Brantford and usually doesn't get first power play time until after the first whistle where they will sub out one of Thomas or Brown and put Vanacker net front. His skill is really underrated as well. Spellacy will be a good fourth line worker. I don't anticipate him developing good puck skills as that is the biggest issue in his game. I know he hasn't been focused on hockey for long so I guess there's a chance he starts developing more but I wouldn't count on it. Pridham definitely plays an active game and has been more physical than I thought especially in playoffs. Great skater, and can shoot it too. I think he will probably have a leg up on some of the other small forwards because he can skate just as well but is bigger and has other positive off puck aspects of his game. Misiak and Pharand I would not expect much from.

This is pretty much spot on with my observations. Of the Hawks prospects playing in the OHL I would have Lardis, Vanacker and Pridham 1-2-3. I was pretty high on Misiak his D+1 year but then he kind of plateaued, if not regressed - until he had a nice comeback over the last month or so - so we'll have to see how he does in the AHL. A long shot to keep an eye on over the next couple years is Ty Henry playing in Erie - he's kind of popped a bit and with his size and skating may work his way into the Hawks plans in a couple years.
