All Purpose News Thread Part Iii

It's not the company, it's the principal.

This has been Hunter's plan for almost a decade now. They already essentially conquered Europe (though part of that is admittedly BretWres outing itself as a haven for degenerates)

My worry is they try to make a move on Japan. Their industry isn't exactly lighting the world on fire given its in a transition period with the economic downturn + AEW raiding them for their biggest names.

Marigold, NOAH and probably Stardom could be had.
Bushiroad owns Stardom so that likely wouldn’t happen without New Japan.

After thinking about it, I think Rossy could be up for running Marigold as a subsidiary. They haven’t been as hot since Sareee dropped their red belt (hasn’t done any shows since) and now Bozilla has left, too.

Reaction from the lucha community has not been great, as you can imagine;

"The acquisition of #AAA by #WWE is perhaps the worst possible news for Mexican #LuchaLibre. A predatory machine now looms not just over an industry, but over an entire expression of popular culture".

Luchablog, which most people agree is the best US based source for Lucha Libre is also not particularly keen on it;

I've seen some tribalists spin it as "YEAH WELL TONY KHAN DID IT TOO AND NO ONE GOT MAD." Wrong. Tony bought a company that was by all intents and purposes dead and in the ground out of being such a huge mark he did it to keep the property alive and away from WWE.

AAA isn't remotely the same thing. By virtue of WWE existing in the market, it's going to cause a shitload of chaos for the mexican scene. Just like they did in Britian.

Well we dont actually know if AAA was on its way out or not so the ROH comparison might be apt.

They have lost a ton of ground to CMLL the past two years. Its very possible it was this or go under.

Doesn't make this not problematic, but it is what it is

There is also a scenario where this actually works out for CMLL in that WWE simply doesnt understand the market they are trying to buy into and their version of AAA remains a distant second and out of touch.

Hopfully if nothing else the talent ends up making more money in the end.

What killed AAA's working relationship with AEW? Was only like two years ago Kenny and Swerve were working Triplemania.

Was it Konnan being a dick?
I think it started when FTR dropped the tag titles to Dragon Lee and Drulistico with Dragon Lee getting the pin and immediately vacating the titles to go to WWE

That’ll do it, I’d probably be pretty mad if I was Tony too

Survivor Series scheduled for November 29 in San Diego at PETCO Park. Not currently marketed as WarGames.

Why would they buy Marigold? It has a thin roster, no tv deal and no historic content library.

WWE will have a Mexican partner in the deal, and they will likely be running things in AAA.

WWE could provide opportunities for their shows and PLEs and help improve the overall production aspect.

SD had been rumored a few weeks back which surprised me since our arena is a bit of a dump for one of the big shows. I didn't consider Petco as a possibility. Weather should be okay hopefully.

It's too bad that it's Thanksgiving weekend, I might have to bail early on my family to get back home.....assuming tickets aren't ridiculous.
