And seeing the gov't talks that it iconic like the Iffel Tower??? that ain't goona happen(tearing it down)
So the case can be made $700 million to redo it over..Have it last another 35 years?

Have you driven on pierre de coubertain or sherbrooke in that part of town lately? We're not just talking about a pimp job to the stadium here, don't be naive, it's gonna cost a whole lot more than 700 mil.

If the infrastructure is worth less than 50 mil, it's pointless to not go downtown

The trend now with stadiums,is not just the stadium, it 's billions of more dollars of NEW real estate development around it (new condos./office towers..restaurants...look at Edmonton, that was a slum side of town..Now it's the "ICE district"...

What people want is proximity to downtown. After work go to baseball, easily accesible. Leave the ball park drunk and go to the club and bang some hotties

On a more serious note, the place isn't as bad as it used to be. Lived there a long time and I once heard a gunshot in about 10 years. It's not like it was in the 70's and 80's or even 90's. But the place, aesthetically, is still an overall dump. Half the friggin buildings date back over a century. Teardown would be an understatement.

And I expect this will the case here but not in dead Hochelaga. Similar to Lebreton project I expect the group to request land to build a complex with condos + stadium. Part of condos proceeds will be used to finance the new stadium while govts will be called to contribute a portion or offer other incentives.
Football can get away with stadiums built outside of downtown core as there is only one game per week so people don't mind an occasional trek. You have 81 home games in baseball, people want convenient access.

You would never reconize that area(in a good way) if 3 billion got poured into that area....that's the new trend with sports teams arenas....the ARENA..and major development surrounding it ...tons of money to be made in that..AND it makes for a easier sell to tax payers...as the cities taxes the new condo and office towers...resturants /shops etc and .new business is created also etc..

Uhm... Montreal doesn't have the economic growth to support such demographical uprooting and relocating.
Our provincial government is way too stopgap oriented (because of said lack of true economic growth) to ever go for that. Way too conservative, but with Legeault, hey, you never know. He's a lot more progressive than some of the other blokes who were there before him.
