All-Purpose "Days of Our Meruelo" Talk

I'm at Westgate for the first time since my last Yotes game. Gratis parking for 2 hours for shoppers but $21.46 for event parking. All electronic now.

There is a pizza place where WhichWich once was and they have an amazing slice called Lil Diablo.

We need a hockey team.
Wife and I went to the new Texas Roadhouse there a week ago. Of the three in the west valley this one is the best for eating in house.

We to a lot of take out though and I haven't tried theirs yet, but the one out at Estrella Parkway does excellent ToGo.

You know, I just deleted a response to this because it dawned on me that you think I'm attacking you personally. At least that's my best guess, based on your need to describe the origins of your fandom. I can assure you TL, that nothing could be further from the truth. There is a myriad of reason's fans can't attend games live, rabid fans even and I respect them all. In fact, very few from F40 fall under my "fair weather, bandwagon jump'n etc." rant.
That doesn't change or excuse the valley as a whole. It also doesn't change the fact that the organizations do indeed think that fans are only as good as their wallets..... because it's a business and they are. I can only chuckle at the lemming comment, I mean after all if a person wants a guaranteed outcome that is rosy more often than not, they should just go to the movies and avoid sports altogether.... hell, they can find out ahead of time if it's a happy film and completely avoid any pain.

I'm not seeing anything as an attack on me.... I only used me as an example.

I just have a pet peeve, and it's about people who lump others together in general as an excuse. Simple fact of the matter is there was a cavalcade of errors made regarding the Coyotes going all the way back to when John Ziegler told Jerry Colangelo back in 1990 the NHL wasn't coming to Phoenix ever in his lifetime.

Yes, there were many issues, all of which this weak fanbase refused to overcome.

I hate to rain on the parade, but in sports business these days, fanbases aren't the reason why a franchise stays or goes.

They just aren't.

It feels good to vent your irritation about the quality of a fanbase, especially if you're a die-hard fan in a market like ours where the target audience was rich people with no local loyalties.

But ultimately, whether a franchise stays and thrives or stays and doesn't thrive or outright leaves is all up to the people owning the thing and the league that they're in.

Owners know that fan interest is cyclical in almost every city nowadays. Gone forever are the days where a major league sports team is the only entertainment option. You see the kind of loyalty that the major league teams used to get in the minor leagues now, because in the minors the promoters know they have to put out a good product and keep fans coming in. In the majors, it's all big dollar contracts, B2B agreements, complex subsidy arrangements with the league and the city they're in, etc.

But hey, I'm not surprised to see an antiquated view of sports business and fanbase importance here... on a message forum... in 2025... :D :D :D
