I get that the franchise was bleeding money and AM was trying to save wherever he could while he worked on an arena. What I don't get is how he could seem so lackadaisical about getting the arena done in general so he could start making money instead of losing it.

Seemed allergic to the path of least resistance too.

He's spinning his wheels and getting nowhere and it's pretty easy to see that he was the main reason things didn't go better. I can't find any sense of urgency on his part, only a complete lack of situational awareness paired with subpar effort, add in some arrogance.

Either that or he gave zero shits about the team in reality, just the ED. Almost 5 years and he still doesn't even have a piece of land to build an arena on and might never get one. Is he really even trying?
Bleeding money but had to pay how much to ASU just to be able to play in their arena? Was it $25 million not including the lease payments? All because he had to come in and try to strong arm Glendale from day one. Then he pretends he made more money there. Kept the bs narrative going until the team was gone.

Strong arm Glendale?? What you smokin;"?

They offered to forego the annual lease and play at Glendale on a 3+2 lease under the current terms while pursuing Tempe.. Glendale wanted 12 years plus or nothing, PLUS dump millions more into the arena.

So just who the frick is strong arming who here??

100%

It was all or nothing for Glendale.. hindsight though is work on a lease with a loophole to GTFO, but then again Glendale terminated a lease previously so why wouldn't they do the same. The bridges were burned.

Depends on who you believe. On day one he started shitting on Glendale. No reason he couldn't look for a new project without doing that. He should have taken the Barroway route and played nice until he was gone. Everything is a negotiation. No way I believe he made a good faith decent offer to Glendale on a shorter term lease and they flat said long term or nothing. He didn't think they'd kick him out so he believed they would take whatever he offered. He even said he didn't think they'd do it in his damn presser. He thought wrong and now our team is gone. I realize you love to defend him for whatever reason but he nuked this thing from the get go. Now our team is gone. Have fun routing for Utah from your room in Meruelo's casino.

Change is difficult at times.

You either adapt or get buried. It sucks, I know. Been caught in it myself.
Change imposed by the clueless for the sake of change is ignorant. You're speaking from the viewpoint of the terminated, or altered role employee, I'm speaking toward the lack of competence that has been the asshats.

He was shocked that the City of Glendale actually kicked him out, he was shocked that Tempe resoundingly said no, and now he's shocked (but $1B richer) that the NHL bought him out. This guy is full of surprises!

Based on the ways AM seems to do business I have no reason not to believe the City of Glendale when they said Meruelo made a power move at their first ever meeting. I totally believe that he didn't even try to play nice or work out a deal with Glendale. But oops! They called his bluff. In the end the Coyotes needed Glendale more than Glendale needed the Coyotes.

I just read that Glendale is spending $40M on renovations. I think that the ASU money, offered to Glendale, would've gone a long way to a short-term deal. But I don't believe AM ever offered them anything. It would've covered half of Glendale's renovations and they'd probably be happy about it.

Fact is, the end started the minute he got kicked out of Glendale becase he didn't think they'd do it.

Nyah…. My opinion is based on what the actual parties involved were quoted as saying. That isn’t defending anyone. That’s just laying it all out there.

You’re still acting like you’re still hung up over the west side - east side thing and choose what you want to listen to accordingly.

As much as you now want to lift Barroway up now, he was going broke over it and wasn’t going to make it through the 2018-19 season. The indicators were all there.

It’s still the reality.

So you either evolve or get the hell out. The man had a 40 year record of turning ill-run companies around. Why should he feel this any different?

I've stopped caring where the arena was going years ago. I just wanted to keep our hockey team. As I said, he could have played nice like Barroway until he got his new building. That was the smart thing to do and I have no doubt he could have instead of being the arrogant dick his is. Barroway couldn't afford to be the owner like all the others. I don't give a damn about him or Meruelo. I only care, or cared as it is now, about our hockey team.

Perfect. Summed up with a lot less anger than I could have. After everything that's come out, if you think we lost the team for other reasons than they were playing in a college arena, I don't know what else to tell you. Betman, who was our biggest advocate by far made that abundantly clear.

They aren’t.
The good ones, the only ones he let be, to do what they do are.

If he’d have done a little research, he’d have seen this sure as shit is different.

Yeah. This whole "Meruelo turns around poor-performing assets" thing seems more and more like a hobbyist mechanic who is good at getting rusted old go-karts running after they've sat out in the weeds for a few years trying his hand at doing engine and electronics work on a Bugatti Veyron. Based on what I've read about his Vegas casino properties under his management, and what I've seen from him as Coyotes' owner, he's definitely a case study for the Peter Principle.

And yet he went from a single tuxedo shop to billionaire.

interesting development. listening to morning show and I'm sure its coming from gambo is that meruelo group may be partnering with someone and announcement will come after land deal is completed.

my opinion is that this is meruelo groups way out and still be part of development

oh wow. looks like new branding on it's way. or maybe secondary logo?
not sure where they are getting it from.

here it is. new website leaked.

www.returnofthehowl.com

looks like new branding for this journey.

Where did you hear this?

From a purely theoretical standpoint, something like this would make sense because Meruelo obviously would rather own and operate the entertainment district and leave all the distracting hockey stuff to someone else, but it also gives way too many vibes of Ellman/Moyes to ever make anyone feel comfortable with the concept.

But I'm gonna categorize this as hearsay until there is corroboration and vetted sourcing.

turn to az sports. they talking budoheizer hire and during their update they mentioned this.

nothing official but appears they starting a grassroot campaign once land is acquired.

they prob don't want to use the hockey logo until they get team back.

Anyone who paid close attention would have known about the rumor of Meruelo having other investors in this project for a while.

Gambo's not the first on this one.

Per Craig as of yesterday, AM and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego still have not had their meeting. No big deal.. still a month to go

thats what worries me. alex seems so out of touch. his daughter sounds ridiculous.

I'm wondering the new partner is being brought in and thats why they release campaign website

Did someone say that this is a campaign website? Because it looks like some horrifically outdated hack job done by someone in Microsoft Paint to put on a GoDaddy landing page they bought with their coffee money.
