I always felt Jones was the real deal and would one day be a great starter in the league.
I have always loved Scrivens. Guy has won on every level he's played and is a battler and has a good head. That said, I don't think he is on the same level as Jones. Jones I think can be the next Quick, which is high praise. Scrivens is a guy that can be a solid starter for you, but does not strike fear into the other team.
With as many health issues as Quick has had, you do as many have stated. Send Jones down and let Scrivens walk at years end. This is a team built for cup runs, if Quick goes down again you need depth in net more than any return Scrivens would bring this year.
If Scrivens walks for nothing, it was worth it for the insurance.
In terms of Chicago, Crawford looks to be out 3 weeks, but even if he was out the year, they would give Raanta a long look. CHI loves Raanta and this is why they brought him in, they felt he could play this year and back them deep. He has been playing solid to start and they are in no hurry to move assets to bring in a G.
Any other teams that need G basically have young guys in the system, so they won't pay for Scrivens on the small sample size playing in front of a solid team on D. Even if he is a big upgrade, he is not a name that makes a splash for a GM. Then if he struggles the GM get skilled in the media and by fans "Why did he waste cap to bring in an unproven when there are guys like Hiller and Miller out there...He needs to go!" If a team brings in a name and they flop, no one really blames the GM on that one because it was a chance they'd have to take if XYZ was available.
