Enough of him and his so called "system" already. Defense first? We suck at defense. No one clears the crease. Hank is left out to dry on breakaways and crazy odd-man rushes. The offense is on a whole nother level of suck.

Eh, I'd say the Rangers under Tortorella have been mediocre more than "successful". 3 full seasons, a 9th, 8th and then 1st place finish. Now in 9th place 26 games in. Frankly, last year's roster was very underrated, I don't think Torts' was the only coach that could have taken that team to a first place finish - especially with Lundqvist playing the way he was.

This year, it's a different team. We relied a lot on shot blocking last year, and we replaced four of our best shot blockers in Anisimov, Dubinsky, Fedotenko, and Prust with non-shot blockers like Pyatt, Nash, Asham, and Miller. Yet, despite that, Tortorella still runs a defensive system where the majority of its success hinges on blocking shots.

It has to change. I loved watching my team put their bodies on the line for the win, but it's not practical with this forward roster.

That being said, there's problems other than this that Torts must address as well, but I don't really feel like getting into those things until they're brought up. ;) In short, Torts has been one of the problems this year, no doubt in my mind.

No way. His 6 goalie system is a Revelation. Players just got it wrong. Grinding is the new breakout. It should be worshipped or just bring in more grinders. Who needs a PP? Overrated. Who needs a constructive attack? Playmaking is definitely overrated. We need more JAM. If you cannot dump and chase - ride the pine. I see no problem with this lovely brand of hockey with this roster as long as we are a serious contender - for an 8th seed...
And the pressers are the best
WHAM BAM WE LOVE JAM

I just don't understand him at all. The Richards-Hagelin-Gaborik and Stepan-Nash-Callahan shakeup had both lines looking more competent than they had all game and, predictably, it was scrapped in 5 game minutes after 2 shifts together.

To me, the best case scenario (albeit unlikely) is that Florida fires Dineen after they finish dead last and he replaces Tortorella. The team needs an offensive minded coach. I don't think anyone has done more with less than Dineen. Look at that Panthers roster from last year, and he won the division with them.

Michael Haley and Brian Boyle were playing with the team down a goal with under 4 minutes left. Thats all you need to know....

It doesn't take 90 pages of handwritten notes to figure out how to turn this ship around.

Torts was very nice to Sam last night..... Now I hope everyone is happy!!!! WHO CARES!!! All I want to happen is for the rangers to win hockey games!!!

If he gets canned mid-season, do we go with an interim? Who's out there? Do we go with a full time hire?

Could you imagine if Uncle Glen comes down from the lux box to coach a la 2002/03

They turned over too many players this offseaon. They just can't recoup the loss of chemistry. Too little time, too much pressure from this crackpot coach. Tortorellas ice time decisions are maddening. He's becoming indefensible.

Sather gets the axe first...then let the new GM pick who he wants to do the job...no sense going in reverse .

Torts getting fired seems like a possibility. I just can't see Slats getting the axe. Something about it just makes it seem like he will retire with us.

Slats has a lifetime contract. He's not leaving against his will. Raises an interesting question. Which GM has hired the most coaches for a single franchise? Sather has hired 5 coaches for the Rangers during his tenure (Low, Trottier, himself, Renney, Tortorella).

Honestly, the only guy I would be persuaded to switch Torts midseason would be Mike Babcock. That ain't happening.

Just like Torts getting fired mid season.

Like it or not, Torts is going to get another season here. If the Rangers fail to produce by mid season next year, he is a goner...

Gabs will be moved before Torts loses his job...

When? This time next year, perhaps? At the earliest? Dont let the peanut gallery's frustrations with yet another flawed roster get you too. I was no fan of Torts when he came in, and didnt think he did a particularly good job his first 2 seasons here - but he and Lundqvist were as big of reasons as any that the team had some success last season. Now, 25 games into a lockout shortened season, with no training camp, and huge roster turnover at forward, the man is going to get fired?

Sather, not unlike 2007, smelled victory, got his dirty hands on the team, and handed the head coach a very different roster. Im not faulting him for the Nash deal, but I am faulting him for failing to realize and grow the identity that the team built last season. When you replace true blue collar guys like Prust, Dubinsky, and Fedotenko with Asham, Pyatt, Haley, Halpern, Mashinter, Ferreiro, Miller, and whatever else turned up, you're just asking for trouble.

Ive watched dozens of Rangers teams lock down the glamorous names and fail year after year when, on paper, it looked like they were going to dominate as an offensive juggernaut (not unlike what people are begging for around here). Last year, I saw a team that worked hard and played tough every single shift - a team that was greater than the sum of its parts. It was a pleasure to watch. Thats gone now. Part of it is on Tortorella, part of it is on the players, but most of it is on Sather - whose knack to blow up rosters continues to deprive this organization of any year over year success.

Tortorella wont go anywhere this season. He'll get the benefit of the doubt, of a shortened season, no camp, new players, etc.

The line juggling and late game decisions/benching need to stop. Sather needs to sit this guy down and straighten him out on some of his BS. We shouldn't just piss away this season, which is largely what is happening right now.

Has to be Lamoriello, and I can't think of anyone that would be a close second ... especially if you count himself (2x) and Lemaire (3 different times) ... plus Carpenter, Schoenfeld, McVie, Brooks, Cunniff, Robinson (2x), Ftorek, Sutter, Julien, Constantine, Deboer, MacLean

Good guess. I'll see what else I can dig up.

Why would he now?

I think he got the message that this is a retirement job after 2004.

If the Rangers had an owner who had half a brain, wasnt too busy cheating on his wife, and cared more about the things he owns than his guitar, maybe there'd be some accountability for fielding a mediocre to bad team for over a decade, and then ****ing with the first good team that came along.
