Why do they (seemingly) keep hiring coaches whose strengths do not align with the team’s development stage? It shows a definite lack of creativity.

Because the Flyers believe that's how you develop players...

The powers that be truly believe that they won in the 70's strictly through hard work and grit. They completely ignore that they were damned good hockey players first and foremost. It's a thought process that has sunk into the foundation of the entire organization and poisoned the whole thing.

Why do we care what coaches are paid? Doesnt count towards salary cap, if comcast wants to blow there money...i say let em do it.

I only care because they spend that type of money & act like they’re getting some great quality in turn simply because they paid that high price. The other point is it makes it harder to then fire the said coach when it becomes obvious they need to go because of the sunken cost fallacy.

So while no salary cap they still do have potential to affect the hockey operations.

They could blow like a million dollars on Bob Kelly to walk around the concourse talking to fans for all I give a shit because that doesn’t have any direct or indirect effect on the hockey operations. It’s probably a dumb/poor investment but at the end of that days that the type of investment I couldn’t give two f***s about.

I think it would be nice if they had a coach who allowed offense.

The Flyers believe they have a proven "culture" and a legacy. They're blind to the fact that their culture and legacy is one of incompetence.

Tocchet is the perfect encapsulation of ass backwards hockey bubble logic. His poor records are often chalked up to being with bad teams &/or dysfunctional organizations for those that talk highly of him. The next usual talking point is how he’s really respected in the hockey world.

But if these things are true then why aren’t good teams/front offices lining up to hire this guy?

The only teams that might hire him are the kinds of teams that might pass on Buium for Luchanko. Yet again the Flyers are going to do a thing that only bad teams do.

Fun fact: Tocchet coached the Lightning the season after Torts left.

Can’t wait to be beat over the head (again) with how a coach who has made the playoffs in 2/9 seasons, with 1 round won, is a proven winner. And he understands the Flyers DNA, etc. And all it took for his services was one of the biggest deals in the league because he wanted to be here. What luck!

Flyers do exactly what you think the Flyers are going to do. And if they don't, they do something far worse.

When did we start noticing Tocchet as next coach was inevitable? The moment Torts was fired? Hell, the second he was in hot water in VAN I'm certain we were talking about what role he'd be overpaid to take here.

Wasn't it functionally inevitable before we hired Torts? I have a vague recollection that the only reason it wasn't him then was because he wasn't ready to leave TNT yet.

Yeah, that is true.

You know these morons are gonna smugly think they've finally done it and perfected the...whatever they're doing. I wonder how many times their glorious plans have to fail before they look in the mirror and say "I suck more than anything that has ever sucked before"

The most depressing thing? We are going to be doomed to another 3 years of sludge hockey. The exact flavor of the sludge changes, but it's always sludge.
