All Encompassing Head Coach Search Thread

I truly don't care anymore. I didnt want Quenneville, we dont have the talent for the coaching choice to matter. If its between giving a guy a 5 year deal or a 2 year deal - i'd prefer a 2 year deal to get us through until we have the talent....although does it really matter? Comcast gonna comcast

These are my feelings, too.

Until the drafting, trading, roster building gets better it doesn't matter all that much

yes his name is Lappy..

I'm wondering if they are looking at an AC on one of the playoff teams such as Marc Savard.
If they wanted Lappy, they could name him as the next guy at any time. The same goes with Shaw who I think will be retained in some capacity in the new regime.
I don't believe that Tocchet is in the mix. He may go to Boston or Pittsburgh. I may be wrong but I vaguely remember that when his gambling/money laundering mess was settled that there was a rumor floating around that part of it was that he could never work in the State of NJ or Philadelphia area. Snider was not a happy camper with Tocchet and the Flyers tried to distance themselves from him as much as possible at that time. Especially since he was not one of there employees.
Ferschweiler may still be out there.

There has to be a limited menu of coaches willing to live through the next 2-3yrs of pain.
Nah, unless someone is already currently a head coach, they're all interested. Now, they may not be their first choice but even if you have a good track record and a lengthy resume, if you are presently not employed as a head coach, you're interested in any head coaching position. Maybe in the rarest of circumstances where it is like an Oakland A's situation with an owner that won't spend money and there are shitty facilities, etc. someone may not be interested. But the Flyers, despite their obvious shortcomings, are still a good organization from the POV of the head coach. Players may have different POV but I think all coaches available will be interested.

Plus, while I don't have any actual factual basis for this, it seems like most coaches don't even make it through their first contract with a team. Maybe someone else has insight but it seems like the coaching carrousel is always flowing.

From what I got with the vibe when he was on tv over the weekend. I don't think he wants any of the open jobs right now.

Man, this guy doesn't have the track record to be this selective.

It's funny. He's not that special, and the only teams that want him are bad and make bad decisions. And so he doesn't want to deal with that, either.

I suspect he's pretty happy where he is and isn't gonna bother going back to coaching unless it's a serious contender offering him a shot. This isn't the behavior of someone chomping at the bit, unless they're also a bizarre egomaniac. We've had enough of them

Yeah I think he's thinking I'll make money on TV for a bit.

I'll give Al credit for making me laugh a couple of times.

Many years ago I think he was the one who said, "They found Bin Laden, he was on Versus." (Shortly after the main NHL network moved there and was extremely low-budget).

And another time when they showed someone with perfect hair and he said something like [Look at that hair. Was it cut by a laser?]

Neither compare to Bill Clement's, "Have I told you about the Armenian genocide?" That was a true WTF moment.

I guess my choice is Shaw. Lappy makes sense but I get the feeling he coaches boring hockey. It would make no sense to get an established retread. For the next few seasons we just need a coach who bides time
