If @Appleyard really doesn't want or think he is capable (can he be any worse) indeed I would have him as part of the scout team with
@JojoTheWhale
@BigToe and
@Chinatown88

And i feel like I am leaving 2 others from the site off the list

Just one of those things with the NHL where have to put in the miles and wait... and still might never happen.

Right now though trying to contribute to a Clark Cup is the end-goal!
I’ve seen you, the above posters, and a few others like Flyguy and Magua on here be pretty consistently right over and over again. I really don’t understand why the Flyers can’t be better or why we don’t just hire these guys as the scouts. I feel pretty confident we would be top 5 in the NHL from a drafting standpoint.

I just want to be 100% clear that I am a terrible and useless hockey scout. This is not fishing for compliments. Never listen to me on that stuff. Ever. Unless you want to sign Wyatt Kalynuk right now. Other people here certainly could.

I could be whatever the hell Jones is. That is it. It's all relationships, being a steady no bullshit presence, and greasing the machine to let the smart people do their work in peace. No different than a corporate gig.

But yes, I think the bar for being a mediocre NHL GM is functionally non-existent. If you can breathe and you're willing to listen, you can do the job.

I wonder if winning the lottery means they push to have Shaw involved as even more of a priority? Assuming they take Schaefer

I would personally enjoy thr hell out of a Gritty powered by Budvar.

I cant express how much I laughed the day I learned Budvar had to be (for obvious reasons) marketed as a "Czechvar" brand in the US.

(literally "Czechbrew"; original name Budějovický Budvar translatable as Budweiser Budvar, from the city of Budweis, trademarked in the US... )

The Czechs should make US "Bud" change its name in Czechia tbh, know they cant technically call it Budweiser in a lot of Europe... not that anyone would buy it there anyway.

Something like Pissvoda, as anything else would be really against trading standards...

Flyers are probably 2 head coaches away from the roster being potentially competitive. I would have to think they would look more for a developmental coach but who knows. I’m not sure a retread wants to coach the Flyers now. It’s a position suited for a 1st time NHL coach

Frank made a great point about Tocchet the other day. All the things that seem to made him keen to leave Vancouver, such as their plan, ‘ability to affect change’ as he puts it, or potential to win, what have the Flyers done to be put in a better position?

Next season should be a mulligan. No coach is going to get this team into the playoffs and the roster can’t radically be reshaped in an offseason. My hopes are Shaw or Lappy agrees to take the helm for ~2 years with the potential for more if a good job is done. Ownership gives Briere 2 more years with the caveat that the team has to be looking like they have potential 2-3 seasons from now. It was always going to take time post-Fletcher to attempt to right the ship. No coach or GM would turn this team into a contender or even a playoff team quickly

I think offering Tocchet a lot money & him possibly having a personal connection to the organization to the point where it could blind him to challenges are probably the only thing going for the Flyers here.

I think if you look at it practically though if you’re Tocchet this is probably your last shot where you have good stock around the league. I don’t think any of these jobs Flyers included are you setting you up to win any time soon.

I think sitting out the year & going back to TNT while waiting for the next coaching cycle might make a lot of sense for him.
