Early on The 3rd Period opening Power Play, Matthew Tkachuck shoots a turnaround straight shot at the goal that deflects in off the defenceman(Mikkola)!!! USA leads 3-1!!!
26 seconds later, USA scores again!!! Hughes shoots a shot/pass to the lower right corner, and Gencil pops it in past Saros!!! USA leads 4-1!!!
And now more seconds later, Eichel scores, and USA leads 5-1!!! What a period opening!

Game Over!

Finns looked good until the 3rd.

I know there are larger political considerations affecting things, but I wish there was a Team Russia in this competition. We are missing one more team that would be competitive enough to challenge for the Final, and deprived of seeing a lot of great players.
Add Team EU and Team Russia?

See how the Tkachuks play when they go all in for their teams? Brady would do that practically every night with a blue note jersey.

If they continue this best on best 4 team tournament into the future that would be interesting. An EU team combining Finland, Sweden, Germany , and Czech. You can even throw Texier on the fourth line so the French don’t feel left out!
Bettman & Walsh said yesterday that it will be 8 teams in the future with no non national teams.

I agree the Blues gave up too soon on him, but I admit I didn’t think much about him either
Did we let him walk or was he traded for something?

Don’t forget the Slovaks!! OMG!

Problem with Mikkola here was he was mismanaged and overplayed. We had him on top pairing minutes and lines and he's simply not that kind of player.

I was unaware of that, but to be honest, I prefer the four-team idea with a combined European team. What’s the difference between the Olympics and an eight-nation tournament in that case? Also, eight teams mean there will be more games, more injury risk, and possibly even a bigger disruption to the NHL schedule. Are the professional European leagues going to allow their pros to come over and play for something the NHL profits off of?? If it’s just going to be a meaningless tournament, at least have the gimmick of a combined European team—something we’ll never see at the actual Olympics.

The problem with having a Euro team is that you would have 3 teams playing for their country and 1 that doesn’t have the benefit of that incentive. No one is going to be psyched to play for their continent.

That has to be the goal here. They want to have a 4 year cycle of Olympics then World Cup of Hockey so I imagine they're negotiating with the IIHF and Euro leagues to make it happen. I see it as nothing but a good thing since we've heard about how much the players from the other nations wish they could be involved right now. Frankly expanding to 8 teams and getting non NHL players involved only serves to give the tournament more legitimacy and more excitement, so I'm all for it.

True but, hear me out lol. Europeans have much in common with Texans. They will go on about how great their Country is (State of Texas for a Texan) and how it is the best and everything is better there. Then at the same time tell you how all of Europe (or the USA for a Texan) is also better than your country. I jest but It’s quite possible this is the only apt comparison of Texan and Europeans lol.

In all seriousness in this format it would suck to be the only team not to be competing directly for your country but the European Union exist and it has citizenship of that union. Europe is not only a continent , it is an ethnic identity, and most importantly a political and economic union of counties. Compared to North America or The World it makes the most sense. I am sure the Finns and Swedes would love to beat up on each other but a combined Euro Team would be a force in all truth and would be interesting to watch. A European Union victory over Canada, Russia, or the USA would do much for Hockey in Europe and could possibly be a moment for pride and solidarity for all of Europe. Since almost every country based sport has them compete as individual nations against each other. Some more continent wide new sources already breakout the Olympic Medals as European Union medals so it looks better vs USA and China. The whole continent is slowly moving this way the longer the E.U. Exist imho. It would be awesome hockey, and all four teams would have a chance to win not like this tournament where there is a clear difference between half the teams.
