I did not see a clear place to discuss the tourney so here we are. Off work tonight so I am going to watch the tourney opener and see how good Binnington looks with a defense that isn't constantly allowing cross ice one timers.

Nate is dialed in. Thought he was gonna tell Biz to shut the f*** up for a second there lol.

To be fair I think that's most people's response to Biz talking to them. Lol

Earlier on it was nice to see Gretzky giving Binnington his flowers. They asked him about the Canadian goalie "controversy" and he shut it down and said Binnington is a Cup winner that always elevates his game when he makes the playoffs. Then he not so subtly took a shot at the Blues team defense, saying the core in front him is going to protect the front better than Binny is probably familiar with.

I'm not taking this as an insult, because ANY All Star team would have a better defence than that of most individual teams.

And Canada scores on a power play goal by McKinnon just 56 seconds in!!! Great helpplay by Crosby and McDavid.

The only reason I mention it is because the other panelist were talking about Binnington's numbers not being that great and it seemed like Gretzky was putting more blame on the Blues defense than Binnington's performance.

I am glad this seems competitive though. I think there was a little concern it would be a glorified all star game.

Didn’t really know how the game would be played but I’m pleasantly surprised. Thought it might be more like All Star type competition but they’re definitely playing hard.

I'm hoping that Morrissey check on Eriksson Ek set the tone for the tournament. Let's play hockey.

Looks like this is going to be a two team tournament. Two goals for Canada before Sweden has registered a shot.

Parayko won’t get a point there but created that rush to put Canada up 2-0. Nice play.

Game getting physical. MacKinnon took a run at someone and then Dahlin threw down McDavid.

Watching best on best again is awesome.

I had no doubt it would be competitive. The players want to win for their countries, also on the International stage, where people who don't care about The NHL watch, like they do The Olympics, because the athletes represent their nations.

Thank goodness Parayko is fully healthy again. His back pain hasn't seemed to restrict his motion at all this season, for the first time in several years.

Good period for Team Canada. And both Binnington and Parayko played well. It seems that Sweden started off flat tonight. And taking that penalty with having to face our deadly power play seemed to take the starch out of them.

I just saw Finland's d-pairings. Yikes.

Great opportunity to for Mikkola to show the world what he's made of.

I'm not sure if this group has a zone exit in them.

I am actually enjoying this more than I thought I would. It is pretty obvious that Canada is a league above Sweden though as I expect USA will be against Finland. It really is a two team tourney.

I would like to instead see a North America vs. The World series in the future. Imagine a best of 5 series that would include names not involved in the 4 Nations (Draisaitl, Kaprizov and Pastrnak)

Brodin scores for Sweden on a shot that was thoroughly screened, so Binnington had no chance to stop it. Now it's a one-goal game. And Binner had to make a great save on their next shot to hold the 1-goal lead.

I know there are larger political considerations affecting things, but I wish there was a Team Russia in this competition. We are missing one more team that would be competitive enough to challenge for the Final, and deprived of seeing a lot of great players.
