You're kinda alluding to it, but I seriously doubt he was a "Shadow agent" as much as he didn't want to win the AEW title because of some misguided belief that it'd one day tarnish him eventually winning the WWE title, which was obviously his ultimate goal.

Or he just really didn't want to give off the vibe of the EVP who booked himself as champion.

Also just in AEW alone I'd argue MJF has more instinct for the business than Cody. I'd say Dom, but he sucked donkey balls as a babyface. Which is crazy because he's an incredible heel despite his Dad not being a heel in over 25 years. (And it was short-lived and bad)

Hell, I'd argue Orton over Cody, too. Randy's promos just took awhile to come along because he was a moody dick.
I never considered this, but it makes a lot of sense

I figured he just didn't care to book himself as AEW champion because he didn't need it, and the company didn't need him as champion. Regardless, it was really f***in stupid to make that stipulation at the time...unless of course he had a foot out the door already
