7x7 for Shattenkirk is iffy, as he's no ace in his own zone.

7 years at $750,000 more than Torey Krug? For a guy who is instantly your best defenseman? See ya, Colin. Remember to split on aces and eights.

Why is that a good thing? Who says a GM can't improve his team with a shrewd or smart trade?

I have hammered DS for what he did at last year's deadline AND holding onto Clode to start this year. Couldn't have been more obvious a new voice was needed behind bench.

So far so good, so DS 'came around' on that one and did the right thing.

Now let's see what he does by Mar. 2 on opportunity #2 to make up for a past blunder.
It's a good thing because of his brief history of surrendering picks for the likes of Liles and Stempniak. Don't want to relinquish assets for rentals.

Trade our prospects when they have gained more value.

That would be less than what Yandle got last year (6.35M/per) so yeah, that would be a very good UFA market deal.

yep, is he worth it? Not in my world but my opinion doesn`t dictate the market

I like him, like him alot actually, that price tag just frightens me

Why does it matter what Krug makes? If he's taking Colin's spot, you just added $6 million to the cap for next year. Lets say the Cap goes up to $75 million next year.

Without re-signing anyone or expansion or anything else you have about $14 million in cap space. Now you've added Shattenkirk for $6 million, so we're down to $8 million.

Now you have to re-sign Pasta & Spooner. What's Pasta's value, is he worth Marchand money? if he gets $6 million a year you're left w/ $2 million and you still need to get a contract for Spooner and potentially McAvoy and even still you'd only have 11 forwards under contract.

Now sure someone will go via expansion draft, but you'll need that money to get Spooner and McAvoy squared away.

First he is league minimum IF he comes out, IF he makes the team and doesn't need a year in the minors like most young defensemen. They are losing one of K.Miller, McQuaid or Nash, ideally Nash, that opens up a million. you can play with a cap (ask Chicago) to add impact players. If Cassidy is looking to have his D be more involved with the offense I want a player who is good at doing that, not a prospect who may be good at it in 4 or 5 years.

True, but.....back to Shattenkirk!

I'm kidding, of course. He's good, but he's already turned down 6 mil per year numerous times.

I, for one, don't want to see the Bruins pay him more than that, especially if they're giving up assets for the right to do so.

As others have said, he hasn't turned it down due to the money, it's the location and apparently he wants NYR or BOS. I would bet he goes to the rags, but I think Sweeney should try at least.

You can find a taker for KMiller/Mcquaid too. I bet Philly would like either one of these 2 guys.

Bet he goes to the Rangers too. I'm fine with it. I don't want Sweeney throwing desperation money at FA's anymore. Beleskey is a bust... There is no way Backes is still useful on the second half of his contract, he is barely useful in his first year. People were hard on Chiarelli for spending money on players who he won with, Sweeney is spending just as much on long-term deals except he is spending on players who haven't won anything.

Would love to add him. Would likely mean that both K.Miller and McQuaid needs to go and hope Vegas accept to take Beleskey for a pick in expansion draft.

How about that top-7 for next year?

Yeah, they are not without value for a team that needs a reliable 3rd pairing guy who is a defensive defenseman. Depending what Vegas does- if we have both of them still with us, I would want to move K. Miller and keep McQuaid as our 3rd pair/7th d-man. We can get something decent for K. Miller- mid-level prospect or pick at the minimum I would think.

EDIT- Hey! We could get our 3rd rounder back from Philly!
