2017-18 committed cap

Forwards
  1. Marchand ($6.125M) - Bergeron ($6.875M) - Backes ($6.0M)
  2. xxx ($?M) - Krejci ($7.25M) - Pastrnak ($?M)
  3. Vatrano ($0.7925M) - Spooner ($?M) - Hayes ($2.3M)
  4. Beleskey ($3.8M) - Nash ($0.9M) - Schaller ($?M)
Cehlarik ($0.7425M)

That's $34.785M for the forwards, not including raises for Pastrnak, Spooner and Schaller. Krejci's LW or the 13th forward still needs to be added in as well. I think a good estimate for Pastrnak/Spooner/Schaller = $9.75M.

Now we're up to $44.535M with one forward spot still left to fill.

Defense
  1. Chara ($4.0M) - Carlo ($0.789167M)
  2. Krug ($5.25M) - McQuaid ($2.75M)
  3. K. Miller ($2.5M) - C. Miller ($1.0M)
McAvoy (est $0.925M)
Seidenberg (buyout $2.166667M)

That's $19.380834M for the defense.

Goaltenders
  1. Rask ($7.0M)
  2. Khudobin ($1.2M)

That's $8.2M for the goalies.

Total = $72.115834M not including one of the forward spots.

In short, I think some cap clearing needs to take place if the Bruins are going to add any significant pieces for next season.

Caveat: 1 player will be selected by Vegas in the expansion draft.

They have to take one player from each team, so we will be losing someone.

Watch it be Subban so they can have a goalie for the AHL.

With McPhee running Vegas I would bet on K.Miller or McQuaid, I still say it is the reason both were signed to almost identical contracts, they knew they were going to lose one in expansion.

Keep McQuaid, add a Ryan White/Austin Watson/Jesse Gabrielle type player for close to an ELC deal or ELC, have an inexpensive, tough fourth line and roll three lines that can play two way up tempo hockey, the foundation is there, a prospect or two to go along with an established top 4 D or top 6 forward and this team is a solid playoff team with a good amount of prospects still remaining.

They can't get him to the AHL without clearing waivers.

And if it's an AHL goaltender they want, they can find that easily in free agency, why waste one of their 30 expansion picks.

Maybe they don't want Miller or McQuaids cap hit, Maybe they realize Hayes is terrible. Maybe I said it because everyone, myself included, thinks the Bruins will be losing a salary and McPhee taking Subban messes up that theory and they have to give up a pick or prospect to move Hayes in the offseason for cap space and the sanity of most Bruins fans.

Yep- he'll be waiver eligible after this season if I read the rules correctly. But they could see him as a backup tender or also because they have to take three goalies and one will likely have to be assigned to the AHL, maybe they take Subban or someone similar to trade away prior to the season start. Maybe at the draft even?

If they don't want to take money on they won't have to.

One of Schaller or Nash will be exposed. As will Joe Morrow.

They aren't wasting a free pick/player on a goalie who likely won't make the team and has to clear waivers next October. And Subban has near zero trade value at this point.

It has nothing to do with his play, I just don't think they are in a position to pay him what he will probably get, not if they want to impove to defense or the top 6.

I think with Cassidy as coach the Bruins will now find ways to keep their young talented forwards around. We are in good shape when it comes to the cap.

If we can't improve the team long-term, then I prefer Sweeney to do nothing. They've tried, but the right deal hasn't been out there. I'd have liked to get Landeskog and/or Shattenkirk, but if the ask for either is more than Sweeney wants to pay based on a future vision, then fine. Let's see where the current line-up gets us, and where we stand cap-wise after re-upping Pasta and possibly Spooner (and who Vegas takes) and go from there. With the expansion draft and the tight points groupings in both conferences, I imagine that better deals can be made over the summer if needed.

More days in 4th place........... More days in 4th place...............

I would rather the B's be in 4th place then make an ill-advised deal giving up assets for a rental that will be marginally better than what they have already. If they cannot get an impact player with term (like a Landeskog or similar), then stay the course.

Two years of "due diligence".

Man if he ever actually closes a deal, imagine the diligence he'll have done. It's sure to be a winner!

Good. Doing nothing(aside from moving a couple pa salaries but that won't happen) is the right thing to do.

I believe he has a plan, its risky but could work very well.
