All Bruins rumors/proposals: MOD Warning in OP-The Spiral Staircase to the Deadline

If you can trade Loui for a similar package to what Ladd fetched, I think you have to do it. If the prospect coming back is good enough, consider him your 1st round pick equivalent for this draft and you have the option to trade all 3 1st round picks (and add prospects, other picks or roster players as needed) for the D you need.

Spiral staircase to the deadline? More like water spiraling down the bowl to the deadline but whatever....

Fair enough. But what happens should Bergeron somehow get hurt....we'd then be left with Bozak and Spooner?

Yes I agree, acquiring a true number 1 dman will cost a lot but there is other options like Trouba or Shattenkirk who would be cheaper to get while being able to play a key role on the team with our youngsters showing up in 2 years

If he gets shipped off to the Blues and we get Jaskin back, he is the Eriksson replacement. He's a Bruins type of player.

Sorry had to bring this one over from the other thread. Big, heavy legged, and struggles to score?

I don't hate Jaskin as a throw in, because there is a chance he develops into more than what he is, but at the same time he adds very little value in a deal to me . Something like 4th round value in my book

I'm certainly all set with Bozak. Don't see that as a need or upgrade in any sense of the word. Only F from Toronto I'd reach out for is Komorov.

If we're getting a prospect back from STL, I'd prefer Barbashev.

Bozak was just an example of someone who COULD be a 2nd line center. Not necessarily acquiring him, but of his ilk. Anyways...

What happens if (insert key player gets hurt)? On any team that's a huge blow. Not just the Bruins. What happens if Backstrom got hurt on the Capitals? How about all those times that one of Malkin or Crosby gets hurt? They have some guy on their 2nd line that doesn't belong there. Same would happen anywhere, unless you are extremely lucky, and have enough players on a low caphit to fill in adequately.

I'm not against any deals that make the team better in the long run.

I'm open to someone like Trouba or Shattenkirk if it makes the team better. IMO, Pietrangelo is better than both; and I think would instantly be the player we wanted Dougie to be, and heir to Chara. Trouba and Shattenkirk, like you said, I think are stop gaps. Which I'm fine with, if we are a better team for it.

I'm open for exploring all options, but I do think there needs to be salary/player movement in order for that to happen.

A return consisting of a 1st round pick and Jaskin from STL is clearly not enough.
I'd rather keep Loui.

If Sweeney's series of moves include moving Eriksson (assuming he's not re-signing) and he improves our defense. How in the world do you consider that "giving up on" the playoffs?

My agreement was with the bolded "giving up on playoffs" part of the quoted post, which has been expressed by more than one poster previously. Sorry if you felt I was attacking your point by any means, although I can see your point since you were the poster quoted by the post I quoted (?).

Anyways, I think I stated twice in my post that I'm not opposed to moving Loui per se, but the idea of moving him for the vaunted futures "since we'll have no chance against WSH anyways" irks me. We're most likely on our way to the dance as things are set up, so my view is we shouldn't just throw in the towel by making our team worse right now in order to maybe get marginally better a few years from now. Which in turn is debatable since the experience gained by a couple of rounds of playoff hockey by the likes of Spooner, Pasta, Trotman, Morrow and C.Miller could very well help this team more down the road than any coin flip pick. I don't say "keep Loui" I say "keep Loui if we can't use him to better our chances right now".

I agree, while Jaskin may be a Bruins-type player (judging from his hit totals), a Loui replacement he is not.

Kemppainen-like goal totals (3), averages less than 12 min a game, recently had a short stint in the AHL and has only played in 1 of the last 8-9 St. Louis games.

Even next season I'd see him a 4th line LW behind 63/39/Vatrano.

Loui for a 1st and a 4th line LW. Woof!

Surely Sweeney can do better. At least get something of positional need along with the 1st, even if it's a long-term type of guy, i.e not a winger or a goaltender.

That suggested (not rumored) 1st + Josh Manson deal sounds a million times better, and even that deal was nothing great.
