Time for Sweeney to step up and make the changes that will bring this team into competitive status.

Chara should go.
Connolly....... trade, demote, buy out, whatever. Anything.

Package Chara, Connolly, Koko, and a pick for a legit defenseman (and prospect?)

Bob McKenzie just said Big Buff is looking for 5 years at 7 million per year.

**** that.

Doesn't take a scoop to know the price for a FA D-man. I would think 5/35 would likely be a best case, almost a bargain scenario, and it could easily go 6/45 or even 7/53

Not saying I would touch him at even the 5 year scenario. The guy is untouchable to me. I expect his next contract to be an absolute disaster for someone

How do you convince Chara to leave by the deadline?

Really? I want to know.

I've been saying how awkward it is all year. You have a mediocre team with major problems and no truly blue chip prospects. It makes no sense to buy and try to win anything but at the same time you can't coast for 3-4 until a new batch of prospects is ready (Sen/Zob/Deb) because you waste whats left of Bergeron and Krejci. You need to cut all the dead weight ie Connolly/Hayes/Kemp/Talbot/Rinaldo. Get Vatrano back in Providence where he belongs. Showcase Griffith/Koko/Morrow and tank out this season. If all goes well you could have 2 top tier picks.

We have to accept that Chara will stay and even thinking of that is pointless.

But I think it's about time to admit that this team isn't a contender and take it as an honest re-tool year as I've been thinking(only way to survive throuh these games) and sell the players who don't have a future soon and get a better pick, someone who can honestly change things potentialy, there are lost of picks that could be game changers for us even to be had close to 10 range, and dream of that miracle that San Jose drops out of the playoffs.

If Eriksson doesnt have a future here sell him now, try to move Seidenberg for someone who needs a defensive D help and go with that, move Koko/whatever for picks and do trades at the draft.

We have the depth and talent in the prospect pool but nothing that would make us feared, no game changers when we look at that pool right now, be willing to be beaten for few games and smile in the summer knowing the potential is there and the prospect pool goes against anyones in the league.

Jack Johnson? Have to think Columbus is looking for another move with Jones and Murray being RFA at the end of the season. Savard's $4.25/per extension kicks in at the same time.

Obviously not a likely candidate 1-for-1 with Eriksson, but is it possible to make something work with the similar assets recouped from a Loui deal at the deadline?

I think he would thrive under Claude. Some baggage there. Have to think big though. Contract not a problem.

con some playoff team into taking K.Miller at the deadline...for a 3rd.

solid depth for any team looking for a deep run, cheap, physical, will fight..pull ups........

With Krejci out, this team is the same as last years.

With a healthy Krejci they are a solid playoff team.

With health, add a top 3 D and they are one of the top teams in the east. I'd argue if they add a top 6 wing instead of the top 3D you get the same result.

NHL parity is a beeyatch.

Not sure but I thought that it was either last July's draft or the 2016 draft.

Edmonton had the option of moving that 2nd round pick in either the 2015, 2016 or 2017 draft. It passed in 2015. Looks like it will pass, too, in 2016 because the pick will most likely be a high one. So it's 2017.

:laugh::laugh:

That's essentially what Shattenkirk will be looking for, or in that vicinity. A guy who is developing into a legit #1D.

But Buff? Haha. Craziness. No way.

Shattenkirk may end up being a good bit higher than that, especially if there is a team that believes he can be a #1. On the open market I would think he is around 8.5 mil per

And they were a solid playoff team last year if Krejci didn't get hurt at the end of february last year.

League is so tough, and yeah you loose a legit #1 center and it is pretty crippling

If this team can barely win a game without him then no way just him makes them a solid playoff team.Quite a few glaring holes.Other teams will be loading up a bit more too by deadline.I am betting not the Boston Bruins.

Hard to justify trying to make moves for this year only.

Think you have to move on from Loui. Although he has done a nice job for us he might not be worth his next contract.

Would also move Connolly as well and A guy like Kevin Miller depending on the return. Loui should get w nice return in a sellers market.

This.

Also, (not BJ) but the sentiment that the B's are a "solid playoff team"...with that D, this is a fantasy.

My argument then is that you get what you can for Bergeron and/or Krejci and rebuild this thing the right way. Instead, they've slapped some band aids on the weak points and are stuck in hockey purgatory.

with this D, Krejci or not, this team is anything but a "solid playoff team"

They are an average team, have been since they broke camp and were watching what many predicted we`d watch, a team who`d be fighting for a playoff spot.

Why fans are shocked here is odd since the majority predicted just what`s happening?

Trading Bergeron is perhaps the worst thing this franchise could do.

Highly unlikely you'd get the kind of value necessary to undo the crippling damage done to offense, team defense, PP, PK, leadership quotient, morale, and fan fallout.

IMO trading Bergeron is a move that would set this team back a long way on and off the ice and ultimately (quickly) cost Sweeney his job.
