This is some Captain shit right here. He left a lot of money on the table. His agent could have negotiated a 2-3 year deal for a much larger payday in a few years. The fact he took 7 years to age 30 means he's not just helping the team stay competitive, he's betting on himself to produce and earn a 4th contract payday at 30. I honestly give him the C over Fox.

Fox and Lafreniere are locked in long term. Next is Shesterkin.

The way Drury is operating is exactly how it was perceived coming into the season, this is the end for this core of players and a new core is being established.

This deal works great even if Lafreniere is an 80 point player. He might be an 80 point player with limited PP time. Future assistant and maybe captain of the team.

Hope he doesn't collect his check and run off to the country club VIP lounge as is many a former Rangers want!

Sorry, had to sprinkle a little pessimism into this overly optimistic thread. Stoked for this though, good time to finally buy that 3rd Jersey that they wore last night.

Great Deal, take note Shesty…
Shesty is all UFA years, Laf is not all UFA years. Laf will likely have another big contract after this (takes him to 30) and Igor probably will be done in the NHL after his next deal.

One is the best at their position in the league and the other isn't.

Big differences between the two, and neither should "take a discount to help the team"

When Lafreniere was drafted, everyone looked at his play when he captained Canada's WJC team to gold and said "Hey, this guy is gonna be great". It took a bit for him to get that confidence at the NHL level, but now that he has it, look out. And we have him now for at minimum the next 7 years

Why did this get merged? That deal seemed worthy if its own thread. If nothing else why not just lock this one and let that be the new laf thread?

Genuinely curious not trying to start something.

Oh, and HELL YEAH! Shocked this got done for less than $8m per this is awesome!
