Kane wasnt that big of a prospect going into his draft year.... wasnt a consensus #1To me, the comparable for him is always P. Kane, in terms of upside. So rank that where you will.

At the beginning maybe not, but half way through he was the easy #1.Kane wasnt that big of a prospect going into his draft year.... wasnt a consensus #1
I'd put him MacKinnon's level. Similar games actually, MacK has the better speed, I think Laf has the better IQ. I think Laf will be quicker to reach his potential tho.
No. Kane, Tavares, Stamkos, Eichel, Matthews, Dahlin all better prospects
I feel like people somehow forget that Mackinnon exists. I still think it's TBD if McDavid is better than Mackinnon.
Statistically sure, but Tavares was better than both! Gretzky level goal scoring. In Juniors? McDavid was way better than MacKinnon, rofl.
Yes he is. He will be one of the league's best offensive players immediately when he steps in, i.e. next season. The team who win the lottery this year will be extremely lucky.
Can't believe some ppl said "out of the top 5"...
I feel like McDavid and even Tavares had more pre-draft hype surrounding them. I'll put him 3rd
People seem to be over-rating MacKinnon as a prospect. Yes he was a good prospect but not even the sure-fire #1 pick in his draft. For much of the year people thought Seth Jones would go #1, and Drouin even had a better draft year than MacK. The top-4 that year could have gone in any order.
I still don't think that Jones over MacKinnon was the majority of scouting opinions at the time. I remember something similar in the 2009 draft when a minority said that Hedman might go ahead of Tavares - a few may have said it, but it wasn't the majority.

It was quite common at the beginning of that year to hear that Jones was the No. 1. MacKinnon went up near the end IIRC.
The hype really depends on where you live and which leagues you follow. Of course OHL followers don't get much Lafrenière hype (some even claim Byfield is a better prospect lol), but in the QJMHL he is the big thing right now. MacKinnon wasn't as hyped as Lafrenière around here despite playing in the Q. Not sure why so many people seem to claim there was crazy hype around MacKinnon. Can't recall that. In 2013 the top 4 were considered to be all around the same level.
No he doesn't. Anyone who follows the Q knows that Laf has much bigger hype. It's easy to compare the two since they come out of the same league.Laf has similar hype level to Mackinnon
I don't really see a crazy amound of "hype" around Lafreiniere. And I live in the present.they had nowhere near the hype.... not even close.
It's been labeled as the Lafreniere draft for nearly 3 years, but OK.The power of having a good World Juniors
