I didn't see the post game, I was out with a Super Model. ;)

Canadian here...

What is a realistic ceiling on this kid? Someone mentioned a 2nd line player - hopefully he is better than that. Does he have to potential to be a PPG+ player?

Absolutely. A 25g scoring 2nd line winger is probably his floor, not his ceiling.

He will be a PPG player in his prime when we will be on PP1 and rack up PP points in addition to 5V5 play.

It's kind of funny because last year when clueless Quinn did exactly that he got absolutely crucified for it. It's just funny how things change in a year...

The problem with Quinn is he wouldn't roll his lines and the 3rd line would end up getting too little ice time far too often and when games started to feature a lot of special teams Lafreniere, Chytil and Kakko would basically disappear into the bench for too long.

I know it feels like the third line is having more of an impact this year but they're still getting very little ice time on the whole.

True, it's still early though so a game with a ton of special teams can swing ice time, plus that 3rd line has only been together like 3 games. Gallant definitely likes to roll his lines as much as he can, I always felt Quinn was micromanaging and overthinking everything including his matchups and deployments.

I'm pretty sure he had another laser last year that was called down due to a high stick. 99% sure it was him on the breakaway when he knocked the puck out of the air and then just torched the goalie.

It was an offside I think(?), but I remember it too, yup. Beat the goalie clean from the centre of the ice, top of the circles.

Just watched some of the old highlights. Damn if he can just hit that potential he has It was a hard year to enter the league under a college coach but still, you’re the #1 overall for a reason.

Just browsing the new thread today about how Dahlin is a bust... glad it's not just an HFNYR thing to helicopter fan their prized prospects

We took a huge hit with Andersson and Kravtsov (Chytil could very well be another.)

If Kakko and Lafreniere don’t become first liners—that’s it—the rebuild failed.

Then we should start trading people and tank all over again and try a second time. If you tell Zibanejad you are tearing down he will waive.

Can we ditch this moron Drury and get Gorton back?

He at least got us into position to draft elite talents before we wasted their development.

All those wasted elite talents have spent the vast majority of their NHL careers to date under the Gorton regime, not the Drury regime - if anything, Gorton's office carries more blame for their lack of development and dysfunctional relationships thus far.

Personally, I'll start worrying about Lafreniere if he doesn't look like he's taken a major step forward next year. I get that it looks like other kids similarly affected came out looking okay, but reality is that he lost a big chunk of his draft year then came straight to the NHL with no real training camp. In a lot of years, last year was so anomalous that I'm willing to completely discount it. If this was his rookie year and he had three goals and an assist in his first ten games, no one would be all that concerned. And of course, it's not actually his first ten games; I get that. I'm just not going to freak out by a relatively slow start under a new coach and with all the weird circumstances though.
