Hi All! I am a huge fan of prospects and one guy I have been piling up cards of is Alexis.

looking around the net I see a lot of old comps ranging from Mark Stone to Jamie Benn to Crosby as a winger and John Leclair.

I wanted to gauge some Rangers fans opinion of who he ends up being and discuss his game some. Typically I follow Canadian teams but my wife is a huge rangers fan so I will be rooting for them to put it together and make a run.

one article I found I thought built a nice case to say that Alexis is somewhere in between McDavid and Taylor Hall as a prospect which to me adds up to being a helluva player.

Will he be a major centerpiece moving forward, and who do you see him mirroring?

I think he’s better skating and less tough than Benn but not unsimilar.

He’s not likely to become as good defensively as Stone but has some similar skill around the net.

He actually does remind of Crosby, but he clearly won’t be that level of player. He actually reminds me a bit of prime Parise. Or a less physical Landeskog.

i would describe his style of play as a combo of mackinnon and huberdeau - ideally he reaches their level this is purely in terms of what i've seen in his game style wise - not at all trying to label him as a lab built cyborg that combines the best of both of them.

he's got a bigger body and a temperament thats always reminded me of mackinnon - but other than that they produce/play very differently. he doesn't have near the horsepower of nate. the other area i think they compare is their release - he didn't really show that off much this year but he has an elite shot that i expect to see a lot more of as he adds some speed that'll create more looks for it. i'm not sure he's quite on par w/ mackinnon / matthews there, but he's certainly not far off.

how he looks carrying the puck though, and his general game, the hands and vision he has remind me a lot of huberdeau. very smooth on the puck dangling in traffic, head always up, so good at manipulating the play to draw defenders and open up the seam he wants - the last 10-15 games or so this year he really came on there.

personally i think he turns into an elite point producer / franchise player, but at this point in time that comes with a lot of assumptions.

awesome post

His ceiling is a very wealthy man's Alex Tanguay. I don't see the MacKinnon, Benn, or Hall comparisons at all. Huberdeau is a good one.

Also, I would add that if St. Louis were 6'2", he goes 1st overall lol

He was like a 2.5 PPG player in junior hockey. It was a different time.

What cards are you piling up on?

Rich man’s Tanguay. So like a broke, but not poor man’s Crosby?
