No it's not, you made a false implication. I was talking about results not how they get there, you may be right but we'll have to sit and see

You asked if he could end up turning his career around like Hainsey did and I quite clearly outlined the difference between the two players and why that difference was an important distinction that needed to be made.

I really didn't think it was such an abstract concept lol. Perhaps you might want to be less linear in your thoughts when responding incorrectly to such a simple concept.

Hard disagree. Hainsey was a very good skater when we drafted him. He made mistake after mistake and everyone ended up questioning his IQ (and dedication to hockey, he was very much a party boy).

He was seen as pretty much the polar opposite from Komisarek - good skater, offensive minded, low IQ.

I think the Barron and Hainsey comparison is pretty much spot on - except the NHL play style has changed tons since then, and I think Hainsey would have a nicer career now than he did.

Hainsey was never a good skater but the average fan may have thought that just to his apparent offensive acumen when he was drafted. It was startlingly obvious that he was not a good skater as soon as he turned pro. I was very disappointed as were others who I know that are well versed in skating mechanics.

Hainsey was very smart but did not apply it early on in his career as his dedication to training and to improving was well below where it needed to be. Barron is literally the opposite of Hainsey from a skating and IQ perspective. The real difference is that even though Barron is working his tail off to get better his O.S. just isn't up to par. Hainsey had the brains but he just had to mature and apply himself as he could not skate himself out of trouble.

Anyways....don't think we are going to agree here lol, you are a good dude so I will not make this a thing.

Why did you bump this and almost made me have a heart attack thinking they'd traded Carrier tonight? Surely Carrier must have his own thread somewhere???
You’re too tense man lol

Just wanted to highlight how much of a steal it was lol

We shouldn't be surprised if Barron becomes an adequate NHL player.
The biggest problem I've seen with Baron is that he plays well for about 20 games and then has an unfortunate injury. I think he's one head shot away from retirement unfortunately. Couple that with the current skillset that the Canadiens have on their blueline, and it wasn't the best fit.
I sincerely hope he does well in his NHL career.

Similarly with Kovacevic and Harris. They might all become adequate NHL players. Mailloux too. Just not on the Habs.

Good that they ended up realizing that you do need a vet or two in there to make it work. You can't have 4 super young guy on defense at the same time and hope they'll just figure it out as they go.

I don't think he has ever had a 20 game stretch where he has played "well". Maybe a handful at a time and even those games were only "well" relative to his usual poor level of play.....I would hesitate to state that he has had any prolonged stretches where he plays well in relation to a legitimately competent NHL defender.

Honestly, the best we have seen from Barron is usually games where he shows real glimpses of upside but still shows his warts in those games. I have never after any game from him thought that he was playing well defensively as he is too soft and his IQ is just too low to read the ice effectively.

It was still worth a shot in acquiring him, it just didn't work out. You can't win them all and Hughes moved on from him when this became apparent.
