Not sure why Trotz thought this was a trade Nashville needed to make, puzzling is an understatement. Carrier has instantly improved this team's back end.
My concern is what happens to Jayden Struble as Adam Engstrom continues to improve in Laval.

Churn is good. This is the best kind of fitness test (Darwinian competition)... one that Barron failed.

Trotz felt Carrier was overpain relative to his performance, so it was more of a cap dump than a straight trade imo.

Remember the time when Victor Mete was the only option?

Bergevin was very, very bad at acquiring talent of any kind.

He's been a perfect fit for Guhle. It keeps Guhle on the left side and those 2 can play bigger minutes and tougher matchups together.

But yes, absolutely, Mailloux is far away. I hope that's not a surprise... his ENTIRE OHL career was 96 games. Playoffs included. He's one of those young players who was hurt a lot by COVID, + his suspension took a toll.

He was always going to need 2-3 years in the AHL, guy needs icetime. Experience.

Sure reps and opportunity can't hurt but I'm not sure it will help him process info quickly enough which is where I think he struggles.

Carrier was really good beside Matthias Ekholm. I can see the same patern here between Ekholm and Guhle.

I have to give Arber some credit. I would say for the last 10-15 games, Arber started to look a lot better. He simplified his game while taking a lot fewer penalties. He's more concerned with development than policing, and it's showing.

It's always hard to tell from the outside but they also seem very hard working, so it's not just fun with clowning around, they can also be very serious and put in the hard work and push each other. It's that combination of putting in the hard work, but making the hard work fun that creates a winning combination.

It's also why I'm quietly super excited about Demidov, he's another in that mold of being able to make things fun "I play against Slafkovsky, I win", but also seriously hard working and has that drive for constant improvement at the same time.

How exactly do you know "he had one good year left in him, no more"? Also if "WANTED to go back to Russia to be with his child" why was he reportedly asking for a 2 year deal and not a year year?

Markov was already supposed to be finished after his back-to-back knee injuries and was still solid when he returned to the line-up. I'm confident he could have played at a decent level for the 2-year contract he was rumoured to have been asking for.

The guy was the backbone of the team for the better part of a decade and needed just a few more games to reach 1000 with the Habs, surely there was a middle ground to work it out, but Bergy had other ideas (Alzner), and his arrogance got the better of him IMO.

Barron was a PMD man, who struggled in his own end. We may have given up on him too soon, but our new acquisition seemed pretty steady last night, and I think better serves what we need right now, so it could very well be a good deal for both teams, given time.

It’s not just the play, it’s the fact that he’s there to help develop others.

Even if Barron pans out in Nashville it will likely still wind up being a great trade for us.

Oh God I hope not and I doubt it too. Sure, for us fans on this board there is some good commentary coming from some people who follow hockey pretty closely plus it is interesting to get opinions from so many different points of view. However, imagine reading through this thread to try and get a sense of what the fan base thinks about this particular trade…. over 1000 posts of which half seem to be about rehashing past history such as the Lehkonen for Barron+2nd and Kovacevic trades.

FWIW, what I found to be the best piece of information about this trade was the interview where Gorton himself explained the rationale behind it.

The worst part of his injuries were that they were in his prime years, he was on pace for another 60+ point season and it was right after back to back seasons finishing 6th in Norris voting.

Despite playing in a big market, he was somehow underrated and never got the recognition league wide on how good he really was. Perhaps with those seasons played he would've came closer to getting a Norris trophy and getting the appreciation he deserved.

I think any team management lurks on these types of boards, for the feel of the fans etc but more than likely it's the underlings who lurk and look around on social media.

Carrière works for that role for now. There aren’t a lot of RD studs out there. RD will be the guy down the road.

A lot will depend on Mailloux. If they don’t believe in him, he might get packaged away for help. Or, he winds up with us next year and they evaluate him.
