Well, in Holland's case, it's pretty easy. It was Mike Illitch's checkbook, not Holland, that built those Cup winners in Detroit pre-salary cap. Holland was lousy post-cap -- both in Detroit and Edmonton.

Everyone here hates MB….he made a Cup final and may have a Cup if Krieder doesn’t get wiped out. He had a lot of success relative to his peers, one of the more successful GM’s during his time here. Great GM?

Sam Pollack would be like 120 years old today, the league had 6 teams and MTL had serious regional advantages that are disadvantages today. Silly comp.

+ Drouin was asked to play center which was a very bad idea.

He wasn’t asked, he was gifted the number one Center spot before he’d even played a game for the Habs. Along with a 5 year deal for huge money.

Bergevin gave away a franchise defenseman for a POS that never showed up when we needed him. It was also the first and biggest domino that fell, that put us into this rebuild.

The two of them should be permanently banned from the Bell Center.

There are uncontrollable aspects. NHL GMing is backgammon, not chess, but good backgammon players beat poor backgammon players 99.9% of the time.

There aren’t that many really good GMs. Some years there are none.

And a lot of GM are like Sharks. They attack the worse GM. Actually, I'm sure Barry Trotz is receiving a lot of phone call. Why? Since the beginning of his tenure he is making poor choice. Im sure Many Gm feels he is worse than the overall GM. HuGo added Carrier wich is a top 4 dman for absolutely nothing. Last year, Preds fan were saying he was areally good and now at the transaction, he was a bad player. This is curious.

In the presser for this trade he did talk about how they wanted to know what they had with a number of their players, and that they needed to play them in order to have that evaluation. It wasn't stated as why Kovacevic was traded but sure that's an easy assumption to make. But Mailloux being in that bunch isn't really the case. We had 8 NHL D men who derserved ice time + Hutson who seemed like a lock for a total of 9 guys.

So yes Kovacevic was traded in part to clear help clear that logjam up which means more opportunity for young guys, but there was never any room for Mailloux unless he forced his way onto the team with an amazing camp.

And it's funny how this argument that players shouldn't be gifted spots and should have to earn it doesn't seem to apply to a guy like Hutson who was arguably gifted a spot, or how everyone wants Demidov gifted a top-6 spot next season. And in any case nobody was gifted a spot, Kovacevic was already seeing much less ice time last year compared to the year before. Kovacevic basically lost his spot by Struble coming in and forcing management to keep him up.

I wouldn't say Hutson was gifted a spot, he absolutely dominated in camp and preseason, without looking horrible defensively. He definitely looked like he could belong and keep up with the NHL pace.

I haven't watched Carrier play yet but I'm confident that Barron will be a good player. He's got all the tools to be successful in this league.

Something that's never mentioned but is true. He need to be on the PP to really show his value. I think he will get that opportunity in Nashville.

He got 22min a game right off the bat last season so he was gifted his spot before his first training camp. And yes he's kept it by playing great, but that just highlights the difference in philosophies. Do you have to work your way up the NHL lineup starting at the bottom like say Suzuki had to do, or can you be given an opportunity based on skill/potential but then you still have to play well enough to keep the spot.

Playing at the end go a lost season is only partially, Poehling played too. Those are meaningless games outside of giving youngsters a trial. Hutson passing it probably confirmed what was going to happen: he would be given a chance to grab an NHL spot out of camp. That he grabbed, and that they gave him.

Hage was in very large part, the product of the Monahan return from the Peg. The Avs 2nd rounder helped move up a few slots, which could have also been achieved by using other assets.

I have a succinct summary of the Bergevin regime: Our team stats outside of the superstar player Bergevin inherited (Price) were awful. They were awful because over nearly ten years Bergevin didn’t draft, develop, or otherwise acquire players to build up the core.

Barron has made an a** of himself in all 3 zones and is the only dman that makes me want to yell at the t.v. when he predictably forces passes into the middle despite not being pressured. I see kids do this all the time but he has never shown the mental acuity to stop doing it.

The only thing that he does well is skate the puck in open ice but that often ends with a dumb decision as well.

He has a lot of physical talent but that is often not enough to hold down a D spot in the NHL, he is just a softer non-douchey version of Beaulieu.

Carrier has completely changed the makeup of this roster by immediately replacing our worst RHD with what is now our best RHD. It really is a shame that Reinbacher got hurt as he might have been a great late season add with Savard likely out the door at the TDL.

With Mailloux looking like a long term project with no guaranteed future as a quality NHLer and a very weak draft for RHD's coming up I would not be surprised to see HuGo target a decent veteran RHD over the summer or perhaps look to move Struble and/or possibly Mailloux for another 2nd pairing veteran dman sometime after the break.

One more solid RHD combined with at least one of Dach or Slaf returning to form will make for an exciting finish to the season provided that Monty doesn't get hurt.
