I actually hate the trade.

28 years old 5 foot 11 defenceman.

Potential reached at a 5 or 6th defenceman. -14 this year.
3.5 on the mass

Against a 23 years old 6 foot 2 defenceman. Did not play a lot this year. Looks like underacheiving but still really young d.
1.1 on the salary mass.

Seriously… this has the potentiel to backfire greatly.

I really don’t understand the move, it looks like for the first time Hughes lacked patience on that move.

I am puzzled as well. Carrier’s first full NHL season he was already 24. Barron is 23. Must mean they are pretty convinced Barron is a bust and he has very little value. Hopefully they are right, cause I am sure we’ll hear about it every time Barron gets a few points for the rest of his career :D

I haven't seen Alex play much but I'm going to watch him play before commenting. Its going to take more then his height and plus minus for me to form and opinion

Adds some stability to the back end and allows them to move on from Savard at the trade deadline with out having no vets left on the right side. So I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Should also provide our young defense another 2½ years to develop:thumbu:

Not sorry to see him go.
So many chances.
So little improvement since we acquired him.
Just being honest.

Haven’t seen enough of Carrier to evaluate the trade tho.

Barron is too timid, at first I thought that was just nerves but it hasn’t improved 3 years later.

Could he figure it out in 2-3 years? Maybe. Maybe he’ll end up being that late bloomer, but let’s be real those players never end up blossoming on their original team.

No team can afford to wait until a player is 26-27 to break out when they’ve shown no improvement from 20-23.

How? He lost his first PP spot to a rookie and is very likely to have a lot less points this year than he did last year, all while still playing horrible defense.

Don't see it.
Who cares? Teams know he is a 50+ pt defenseman with somewhat below average defense. teams can see how good Hutson is and there should be teams really needing what he brings. Matheson should have at least similar trade value as what he had in the off season.

Savard is pretty much a goner, especially now. As I posted earlier in this thread, I've wanted Carrier for a while as someone who can replace Savard when he gets traded. Because as much as we can rag on him, if Savard is gone and no one is there to replace him, we'll realize how much we'll miss him.

With Carrier there now, and still under contract for another 2 years after, we have someone. Also, he's 6 years younger than Savard.
Savard was gone until they sat him against the pens and the team stunk with five lefties on D. I doubt the habs have the team size to play another small D.

Problem is no one out of their large number of D prospects has grabbed any of the remaining top 4 roles. Guhle is fine as a 2 or 3, Hutson is great but the team has to compensate for his size, Matheson can skate, no one else can really play top 4. They are really lacking a top pairing and some size. This trade does not improve their situation.

The evaluation of Kovacevic is not encouraging.

Yeah but my point is that Kovacevic is not paid 3.75 millions per for 2.5 years.

He will be...

He.. will... be...

Funny for whoever know french......In general, he had an interview where Alex said that he wants to play in Montreal. And will be looking for that when he's a free agent. To which Kevin Raphael said that he was going to cut that part 'cause Carrier would be ask about that all year long...lol.

Lmao where was all this Lehkonen love back when he was on the team
Right here baby.
