This is a decent first step of preparing the overhaul of the RD stable
Jury's out on Mailloux but I remain Supremely confident in Reinbacher, just feel like he actually surprises and impresses I rly do

It's insane how badly obvious it is we have to trade Matheson for a RD
Whatever it takes.
A) Trade matheson for shiny things
B) Package those shiny things with some of our own shiny things for Randersson
C) ????
D) Profit

This is pretty decent for us. Carrier is a decent 4/5 and gives us the option to trade Savard or Matheson come trade deadline without having too many rookies/young guys at once. If we want Mailloux or Reinbacher to play NHL games at the end of the year (if Rein is healthy)

Hutson - Matheson
Guhle - Savard
Xhekaj - Carrier

Is much more stable as a dcore than what we had yesterday.

The one thing I wonder though is... why trade Kovacevic then ? What was the point only to trade Barron later ?
They expected Barron, Mailloux or Reinbacher to take a spot on the team, so they traded Kovacevic. Reinbacher got a season ending injury before the season started, Mailloux is having defensive issues in Laval and Barron is currently a 7th D.

And then Savard missed a few games and the defense was in shambles despite Savvy not even playing that great this year, which probably told them they need more vet help on that side, especially if extending Savard is not in the plans.

We can look at Carrier as a younger better skating Savard who's going to act as the vet RHD for the next two seasons. He's also going to stabilize the right side this year...and makes Matheson even more expendable.

edit: as for him being an ex-Quartexx client, it makes him a known quantity to management.

He's injured so it makes sense...lol. No seriously, fine trade for what it is. Which is Barron being a dissapointment with a low ceiling and Carrier an interesting stopgap and serviceable No6 when all is said and done.

Okay trade. Hopefully, Carrier's injury isn't too long...but it was supposed to be weeks.

When does Noah Dobson come into the plan? That's if @Andrei79 approves of the neck

Exactly. They couldn't trade either until they got a replacement. One of them could be moved soon.

I'm pretty sure they were hoping RB made camp, not Mailloux. That injury was truly devastating. RB was a little hesitant at camp, but you could see he was reliable defensively already, and he would likely have progressed.

I really liked Carrier in juniors. People were saying that he'd grew up to 6'3 because his parents were tall. Sadly never happened, but I was really miffed when the Habs didn't pick him in 2015 with the picked used on Lukas Vejdemo.

Barron had some skill, a good shot and could move the puck, but was scared of being scared.
