It's not healthy to hate Justin Barron. What did he ever do to anyone? He's trying to realize his NHL dream.. he never disparaged the organization. He never cost us a big game. He never said anything hurtful or negative. He's a good kid.
Its the Habs, I love them and he was one of the weakest link of the chain, and brought ZERO physicality I hated him..

Maybe its not healthy but im not watching hockey for compassion and good kids. I want Habs to be at the top and I want a group of warriors and Barron is clearly not one.

Ppl have become so soooft!

Kent is absolutely cutthroat when weaponizing cap space in trades (Laine, Monahan), but is average when taking shots at young, "underdeveloped" talent (Dach, Newhook, Barron). Let’s hope the trend continues with this trade.
Wonder if that says more about our pro scouting department, since I'm assuming he leans onto them where as contracts is kinda his wheelhouse.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all of Dach, Newhook and Barron had reputation, but didn't track well analytically.

Remember the Newhook and Barron freakouts so many of you had? Reminds me of this. OMG Crozbee saiz Barron iz amazzzing in da offseassson. Thanks Sid !

"Sidney Crosby has known so many talented players that he knows them when he sees them. In his eyes, Justin Barron is clearly in that category. In fact, Crosby believes the Colorado Avalanche made a mistake in trading the promising defenseman to the Montreal Canadiens."

"Upon learning of the trade, Crosby said, 'I never would have done this if I were the Avalanche. This kid here, he's a real hockey player. He's ready to play in the NHL and he's going to be a good player." - Sidney Crosby

I would say that might be more of a pro scout/ junior scouts fault

They probably said the player had good potential.

Did the interview with Carrier not have a single English reporter, or did I zone out and miss all of it ?

He's a Quebecois francophone.

You may never hear an English word out of his mouth during his tenure here unless he speaks with TSN/SN/CBC/Prime/etc

That's odd,

I was told the deals he's made are perfectly fine and good value at the time of making them, hence good trades overall.

Interesting..

Barron is probably the ideal guy for Crosby and Marchand to practice 3v3 shinny with over the summer, he can skate well and has ZERO physicality so no risk of injury

I haven't put stock in anything an NHLer says about a prospect since Teemu Selanne told us that Janne Lahti could play top 6 for the habs

So... maybe Sid will not be a scout after his playing days are over?

There’s no massive conspiracy to spin HuGo as infallible. Chantale is pulling no strings on this board.

It's not a conspiracy.

It's something else...

It's like how everyone here has forgiven Bergevin for the Drouin trade because Drouin was a good gamble at the time, right?

Good point, and for the record, I hated that deal from Day 1.

I love the Habs, too. Don't think it warrants vitriol toward a young kid who just didn't figure it out here.

Fair game for people who deserve it by being assholes or f***ing the team over when it mattered.

I still think he becomes a stud D in a few years. Great tools and was getting more comfortable engaging physically imo.

Agreed about the hate; hate his game not the guy.

Wasn’t aware of this — would explain a lot. Sad as it is.

I had one recently and I 100% understand why he flinched with hits and was contact shy at times. The NHL, the media and most fans are still maintaining this fiction where head injuries aren't a massive part of the game and probably the biggest problem to be addressed

The media is the one I blame the most for this. It will probably take a real investigating journalist from a mainstream media to really bring the magnitude of the issue to light. Same as for the cases of sexual violence

I find the difference is the contract is not nearly as bad, the player given away not as good (and from a position of strength, rather than weakness), the player recieved clearly filling a need and unlike Drouin, Dach was actually looking to become a good player before the injury.

One player that I'm convinced has been derailed by brain injuries is Joel Armia. He was playing very well for a short spell some years ago, fulfilling his promise as a prospect, but then Tyler Myers took his head off and he has played in a daze ever since. Every so often he has a good game but he's been fundamentally shorthanded and I bet he's had injuries even prior to the Myers hit.

Crazy like people claiming we lose the trade of lehkonen, Toffoli and cie, don't understand why Kent Gugues done that. First of all, it was it to make the club worse and draft a better player. Its call "tanking".
This, and to win some cap space (Monahan came after)
Some posters are making their Bergevin and looking only the small picture instead of the whole picture of the team.
There is no buissness at all to stay in the middle of the pack, no mands land (10th to 22th position.
Everybody understands why he made those trades, but the main objective was to get assets for our future team.

If those assets start turning into dust you are going to have people starting to question management's judgments. Nothing crazy about it. Hugo is not paid for good intentions, or making trades that look good on paper.

It's almost like most of you just don't follow the nhl outside the habs.

Look at any deadline and the prospects that get traded for rentals, playoff help. The vast majority of them, even if good prospects don't pan out. This is because the odds are already stacked against you.

Lekhonen for a 2nd and a defense prospects is about a classic deadline move you can make. Lekhonen was a middle 6 player at the time of the trade.

When you set unrealistic expectations, you will always be disappointed.

Yep, 100% I suspect long COVID in his case as well. He caught it thrice in a short period of time and the way he played reminded me highly of the symptoms of long COVID

Just watched Gorton's scrum after the trade. I liked hearing talk about them looking at adding some veteran presence because they have a lot of young guys. It really is the next step, adding some vets.

Also liked him mentioning that when they moved Kovacevic, it was to leave the room to some of the young guys because they needed to see them play in order to properly evaluate them. And that helped them realize that it might be too much to ask for some of the young guys to particularly play on their off-side.

Barron gives me "young Jeff Petry" vibes. Edmonton gave up on Petry for the same reasons we gave up on Barron, and Petry developed just fine into a top 4 defenceman with us as he got older.

So give him a few more years, wouldn't shock me to see Baron giving good offensive D-man minutes in Nashville

However, I still thought of him as the odd man out here. Need to make room for Mailoux who has similar offensive tools but more nastiness/physicality in him. and Reinbacher too in another year or 2.

Pierre Dorion said Sens were trying to acquire Carrier from Preds, thinks “Hughes hit a homerun” - starting @ 2:08:00

Said he was familiar with both Carrier & Barron from their junior days at Gatineau & Halifax.
