I actually hate the trade.

28 years old 5 foot 11 defenceman.

Potential reached at a 5 or 6th defenceman. -14 this year.
3.5 on the mass

Against a 23 years old 6 foot 2 defenceman. Did not play a lot this year. Looks like underacheiving but still really young d.
1.1 on the salary mass.

Seriously… this has the potentiel to backfire greatly.

I really don’t understand the move, it looks like for the first time Hughes lacked patience on that move.

Got excited for a sec when I saw the name Carrier. Then I realized it was Alexandre and not William. This is one of those trades that doesn't really do anything for me. I can take it or leave it.

Barron 23 yrs old, 1g 0a for 1 point and -4 in 17 games played
Carrier 28 yrs old, 1g 6a for 7 points and -14 in 28 games played

Meh

Are we getting more? We are taking a lot of terms for a mediocre defenseman.
I still don't understand how we let Kovacevic slip for nothing. There was no benefits by trading him away.

Bad choices were made. Kovacevic, to me, was a much better D-men than Harris, Barron and to a lesser extend Struble. With all the young D-men, the stability he brought was much more valuable according to me than to let him go to test out how the younglings could do without their floaters in the big pool.

That contract is a bit yuck but Barron was on his way to being on waivers. Didn't realize Carrier was so tiny but I do recall as a prospect he was considered a steal.

5"11 is small for a dmen who cant really produce offensively. Dont think either Barron or Carrier will have in impact a meh for meh kind of trade.

I think its a lot of terms. Nashville seem sign him big money and dont achieve it so they salary garbage him. Its good for the club now, but I feel that we will like to see theses 3,7M back soon.

I just dont know. He has to be good.

Or perhaps trading Savard , he's horrible

Savard is pretty much a goner, especially now. As I posted earlier in this thread, I've wanted Carrier for a while as someone who can replace Savard when he gets traded. Because as much as we can rag on him, if Savard is gone and no one is there to replace him, we'll realize how much we'll miss him.

With Carrier there now, and still under contract for another 2 years after, we have someone. Also, he's 6 years younger than Savard.

Don't be blindsided by this abysmal year Nashville is having. Carrier has two previous solid years, which is miles ahead of anything Barron has contributed.

Carrier is 5'11 and signed for 3 years at almost 4 millions...

Barron sucked, but I would have taken picks.

Carrier can play as high as #4 in your line up, is good defensively. He can play some meaningful minutes, more so than Barron, Savard or Struble.

Kent has acquired him to be a short-term stop gap until Reinbacher is ready.

Savard likely gets moved at the TDL and if Carrier plays as expected he could be a solid trade piece next year to a team looking to make a run as he’d only have year left by then and he’s defensive minded. He’s the kind of guys playoff teams covet when they want to go deep.

It’s a good trade but it won’t move the needle tons for either team. I think Montreal won this trade. Barron was awful, and I was a fan and believed in him a few short years ago. Zero progression and as someone mentioned, actually regressed.
