Player Discussion Alexander Ovechkin (Vol. 4)

Sounds like he might stay past next season if his game holds up.

I think he should go for 1000 as long as he’s not a liability out there.

Exactly what I’ve been saying. He loves the team, he loves to compete, they are a good/great team…..why would he walk away from that? Especially if he pots another 35-40+ goals next season?

He won’t. I think he’s got 3yrs total left. But that’s just my opinion.

Yeah three years takes him to 1000 at a moderate pace. I think so too.

The third time in a little over a week after he broke the record that he’s talking about playing past his current contract. I think given the reality of the situation and celebration, it has put things into perspective for him and he is on the brink of changing his mind about heading back to Russia to play after next year (which he mentioned tens of times, even as recently as a little less than two weeks ago), as long as his body stays healthy.

He'll definitely play next season, if he's still playing at a high level (to his standards), the team is good, and his body is healthy, I think he'll play another season. Not much point in speculating about it. Let's see how things look a year from now.

I've always thought he'll play in the NHL as long as possible for family and because that's who he is.

Once he's no longer at the level he can contribute in a way that matches the salary and roster spot he'll likely demand, he'll retire. That could be 2 years or it could be 5 years.

Whether or not he goes to RU to play depends on waaaaay too many other factors (family, geopolitics, league dynamics, opportunities in the USA, etc).

Enjoy it while it lasts.

If Alex's body holds up next year and he pots ~35 and the team is good, I'd offer him 2 years x $8M to stick around and chase 1,000.
