Player Discussion Alexander Ovechkin (Vol. 4)

He made that joke towards the end of Friday’s presser, “well, he hasn’t actually broken it yet. Could you just let me enjoy it for 24 more hours?! Hehehe”

And no one laughed, and it was awkward. It was a good natured joke, but still felt strange and out of place for the moment in DC. Felt like a bit of his true feelings shining through.

Regardless, he still has the most pts ever, and no one’s coming for that (and all his other records). I imagine he’ll live.
He has more assists than anyone else has points. it's insane.

Yeah, I think even Ovie himself is tired of the attention surrounding the record. They both seem relieved to have it done
Wayne should be happy with how quickly Ovy got the record. Was it just the 2 games he attended? Once he got to within 3 of tying that is likely when Wayne had to formally commit to go. Imagine if this dragged onto the next isles road game for game 81? Another 5 games….

21 years ago today Caps caught a break
I can't help but feel like we got lucky as hell to land such a pick in such a fantastic draft, and then we got absolutely hosed more than just about any team ever when in the '04-'05 season, the strike destroyed our route to Crosby and a top pick, and instead we got a late mid 1st, when instead of using the prior season's records, they used an aggregate of multiple seasons, this occurring when we were absolutely locked in to being a bottom 1-5 team in the league in the months after drafting Ovy. That, more then anything, is why he only got 1 Stanely Cup in 20 years. I will never not be bitter about that screw job.

Admittedly only 2 of the top 5 guys hit in that draft, Jack Johnson had a weird, kinda disappointing career, but man, we were making a beeline for Crosby in that draft, probably could have used Price as well, maybe we get lucky, maybe we don't, looks like 4 all stars in the top 12, and a bunch of meh beyond that, but man, I was so so so so damn bitter when we finally decided to tank in 2003, and then got just hosed x10,000 with the '05 draft class. How different might things have been? No Crosby to the Penguins (even if he doesn't go to us), maybe we get one of the stars?

Yep, I'm ecstatic at the luck above, it's brought a great deal of joy after nothing but misery '82-'04 for me as a fan (and unfortunately, '04-'17 too), but I am too bitter to ever completely get over us being totally and completely screwed by that strike and ensuing utter bull---- lottery system they employed to gift the Penguins yet another superstar (and another shortly thereafter).

Thought this was kinda fun. Backy in a league of his own ofc. Really surprised how quickly Strome has shot up the list; already more than Semin and will pass Oshie. Feels like he came to DC just yesterday. Ovi’s never been a big chemistry guy, but was lucky (with Nick/Kuzy imploding) they found Strome to help bring this home.

So Carlson has 54 primaries to Ovechkin. What, maybe 80-85% of those are on the powerplay in the usually formation, probably?

I'm shocked that that means there's only ever been about 40 to 45 instances of Carlson on the point passing to Ovechkin in the trigger spot for a powerplay goal. We've been watching that every night for a decade! Feels like there should be 200 of those goals.

No, these numbers can't be right, right? I'm missing something... edit: okay, I checked, the chart has the primary and secondary assist totals mixed up, so it's 104 primaries for Carlson, which sounds way more right...
