So if it was a major tear, like a season-ending thing, would they know by now? Or is this update just a way of buying time until they check for that tomorrow?

Trying to remain optimistic... A truly 'week to week' thing where he misses 15-20 games is far from the worst outcome here...

ChatGPT on players the Capitals recently listed week-to-week FWIW. It could be 2-3 weeks or longer if they're not being immediately transparent like with the Wilson injury.

T.J. Oshie (2022)

  • Injury: Lower-body injury
  • Timeline: Listed as week-to-week during the 2022-23 season after an October game.
  • Outcome: Oshie missed several weeks but avoided surgery. This designation accurately reflected a moderate injury that healed with rest and rehab

    .

Tom Wilson (2022)

  • Injury: Lower-body injury
  • Timeline: He was also listed as "week-to-week" before undergoing surgery for an ACL tear sustained during the playoffs. In this case, the team may have initially used the term to avoid disclosing the long-term implications
    NHL
    .

Martin Fehervary (2023)

  • Injury: Lower-body injury sustained midseason.
  • Timeline: Declared week-to-week but recovered in about 10 days. This was a minor injury consistent with the shorter end of the week-to-week spectrum
    NHL
    .

Ilya Samsonov (2021)

  • Injury: Upper-body injury
  • Timeline: Listed week-to-week after suffering the injury during practice. He was out for about 2-3 weeks, which matched expectations for a minor to moderate injury
    NHL
    .

Nicklas Backstrom (2021)

  • Injury: Lingering hip injury
  • Timeline: Originally listed as week-to-week, but this turned into a long-term recovery due to the nature of the injury and past complications. This case was more the exception, as the timeline stretched beyond several months despite the initial designation

The endboss of this type of energy is Slava Malamud, who's enjoying a victory lap on twitter. Nasty people!
Slava is the biggest f***ing hypocrite of all time. I remember how hard he went at Ovi over the Ukraine war but failed to ever mention Malkin’s name. It’s personal for him

Week to week could be a bone bruise in the knee. I’ve had a few in my heyday as a soccer player and they can be very tender and painful depending on the location.

Next week is the only busy week for the Caps coming up.

11 games in the next 4 weeks.
Honestly, if he only misses ~10 games, a 72 game, 42 goal season at age 39 would be a legendary season that would increase his career stock (and probably land him an 8th-10th place finish in the league).

If he can get the record, finish top-10 in goals, and help the team make the playoffs this year. That's a huge win.

I'm a huge Ovi homer, but he wasn't going to win the Rocket this year, regardless of the hot start.

He’ll be only miss a few games. Rocket still in play.
Still sad - after 35 he started to miss game from time to time. Did he injured the same leg, that in January? Who exactly can say?
