Rumor: Alexander Ovechkin to sign with Dynamo Moscow (KHL) for 2026-2027

He will go back and play until he's 55 like Jagr.

He will be a draw for what ever team he plays for in the KHL and rightfully so.

Reduced schedule, an absolute legend so he's not going to take too many hits.

Hopefully he sticks it out until the end of next season, but I could see this being it. Same for Malkin, wouldn't surprise me if he's done after this season

Malkin wants to play for Magnitogorsk when he retires, whenever that might be. He's said he's interested in extending a year after this one depending on his health and the state of the team. Well see.
Didn’t Malkin just say he’s not interested in that anymore outside of maybe a game or so?

I'm kind of jealous that Russia's professional league has 16 year olds who are draft eligible.

Wouldn't it be cool if Canadian players could go back and play for their Junior teams?

Like next season MA Fleury goes back to Cape Breton, and backstops them to 50 wins.
Crosby gets jealous, so he goes back to Rimouski, and beats his 168 point season.

Corey Perry goes back to the London Knights with Sam Gagner, and David Bolland and Patrick Kane join them in a couple years.

Don't forget about Knights legend Danny Syvret.

Ah yes, the old "doesn't care about winning" nonsense.

I'm a Habs fan, but I have always loved Ovechkin. I watched every game of his Cup victory run, and it was amazing to see him finally win it all.

A good friend of mine was at the family cup celebrations for the Caps(his nephew played for them) and he was very impressed with Ovie, he treated everyone at the event with class, and he told me he was the life of the party. Cheers to the great 8, he's earned the right to do whatever he wants.

Malkin just said about a month ago that he will retire a Pittsburgh Penguin - he will not play in Russia after retiring.

Yep.

“I retire here — with Penguins — when it happens,” Malkin said. “This is my only team.”

He would have certainly hit the 1000 mark were it not for all of the shortened seasons.
I think so too. 82 in 04/05. 34 in 12/13. 13 in 19/20. 26 in 20/21.

About 155 games there. At a 40 goal pace that is 75. Could already be at 960 in around there. With 90 something games left to hit that 1,000 number.

Kind of crazy to think that he could have bested Wayne’s mark by like 11-12% more goals.

I'll be sad if he leaves and doesn't just go as high as possible with the goals scored record. He can choose to do what he wants. What fans want doesn't mean anything in the end.

He said to Jamie McLennan and Jeff O’Neil that he wants to retire right after the goal

Literally taking off his equipment while celebrating on the ice and slowly making his way towards his car.
