It’s clear to me it’s not working out between him and Rod.

The team that lost first two home game with the score of 2-10 still prefers a younger rookie that was horrible in those games than playing a 6’4 physical beast with 90+ mph shot. At this point there’s no other explanation than the rift between the head coach and the player.

Since Rod is not leaving the team, Nikishin’s agent should start gauging options for the next season as I don’t see this situation improving next year.

Seems a little early to jump to those conclusions. Orlov is UFA in a few weeks so it would seem like Nikishin slides into that spot. Morrow getting the nod could be as simple as it being Chatfield being the injured and them preferring a RHD as a replacement.

Sometimes it's a tall order to be in the KHL one week then get thrown in the NHL playoffs. Mix in any potential language barriers and unfamiliarity with the system and the coaches might be a little hesitant to use them. I remember when Vegas signed Nikita Gusev and he joined them for a couple practices as their first round matchup had already started. It didn't seem like Vegas considered dressing Gusev for that round.

He's played only 1 game and has not had time to fully meld with the new team and system yet. Trading him this fast would be kinda crazy

The guy is, quite literally, a rookie who has barely played. I don't think Carolina would even want to play him given how new he is, and the guy has almost little NHL experience. And if Carolina does trade him (lol), then I think they would be extremely foolish.

I am sure he’s smart enough to understand some basic hockey terms, what else do they need from him now ? Giving interviews? Svech and Orlov could translate coaches words to him as well
Not sure if you are such an authority on what is “smart” given this terrible hot take.

It's valid.

Carolina is getting blown out and they have him sitting.

Will he be traded? Probably not.

However there are far worse threads on this website. If you don't want to read, move on.
And the thing is we’re not talking about some 18 year old prodigy. Nikishin is a matured veteran who was widely considered the best d man outside of the NHL, the captain of the richest KHL team, and went through some hard play off battles right before arriving to Raleigh.

Also, I’m not suggesting Carolina wants or will trade him, I’m saying him and his agent might want to check other options as this is clearly disrespectful attitude towards him.

It appears to just be your conjecture that this is a Rod thing?

Do you remember when Gavrikov came over and Torts wouldn't use him in the playoffs? I think he played 2 games.

Carolina has a very particular structure, getting everyone on board is going to be their priority.

I think Gavrikov arrived late and they still played him against Boston. Besides, I believe Nikishin is a much better player now than what Gavrikov was in 2019.

Huge difference in the speed a D man needs to process the play in the nhl playoffs compared to the KHL. When the game starts to slow down in his mind, so he can keep, then he will be fine. He will be a regular fixture on the Canes D next season.

So trade a 23 year old dman who barely had a chance to get his feet wet? What's valid about that?

Do people understand how tough playoff hockey is? Did people expect this kid to walk into the NHL and immediately turn into Chris Pronger or something?
