Rumor: Alexander Nikishin contract dispute?

Fans acting like media rumors mean nothing until the worst case comes true part 130
Watching the Canes it’s clear RBA has them play to their ceiling regular season and playoffs. It’s the same level. No ramping up for playoffs because they’re already playing their max. Adding Nikishin would have raised their ceiling. Makes no sense what the Canes are doing.

Do you have a link to the Canes management/coach or the player/agent saying that the player is demanding playing time and that’s the sticking point?
I’ve never seen a thing from the team or player that says that’s a sticking point. He was delayed because of visa issues, we were shown him stuck in Turkey I believe. He got here during our last two games which were in Canada and he didn’t have time to get a Canadian visa on top of the US one he needed to come to the Canes. When he arrived the team wanted him to take a little time and get acclimated. He didn’t sign initially because they wanted flexibility on what happened to him, but we were told that there was a deal in place. It wouldnt surprise me if there’s still some negotiating of small aspects going on but Tulsky made it clear if they needed him in the lineup tomorrow he’d be in the lineup tomorrow. We were told the league gave consent to Nikishin practicing with the team despite the contract status and we’ve seen video of him practicing.

Also, I’m not agreeing blindly with RBA that the choice to not playing him is correct. Just as a Canes fan during the RBA era you could see this coming a mile away. There’s a process pretty much all of them go through to work their way on the team that only gets skipped by injury or if you’re trying to get a spot on the team where there’s no competition. Nikishin arriving in camp next fall presumably has a spot in the top four waiting for him if he shows up and plays like everyone thinks he can. Arriving now? When there’s a spot open he’ll get a shot. If a righty spot comes open RBA will play Morrow over Nikishin would be my bet. If it’s a lefty spot and RBA chooses an AHL player he’s familiar with over Nikishin I wouldn’t be shocked - though I think there’s a good chance that would be his first game.

People love to bag on the Canes and anyone who wants attention knows it too, so it doesn’t take much for there to be some new reason the sky is falling over the land of bbq - and for people to run with it.

Thanks. That was good information. Does RBA prefer his D to play their natural side? I don’t get the Morrow (right shot D) and Nikishin (left shot D) competing for the same spot.

Does he need to play in an NHL postseason game for the contract to start this season? The AHL excuse seemed phony to me and given the Wolves' season has ended we'll learn I guess today if it was.

Absolutely he prefers strong side and his defensive coaches do too. There’s been times where guys play their off side but that almost every single time was due to injuries, and on one or two occasions they had an uneven mix and needed to play the best six guys with a steep drop off if they play number 7 to keep everyone on their strong side.

The Nikishin vs Morrow reference was that everyone is waiting for Nikishin to get in so desperately that they hope if a righty d gets hurt Nikishin as a lefty can play his off side due to his presumed high level of play. Never say never, never say always but Morrow has been playing on and off with the Canes the second half of the season as a RD on his strong side - so RBA is highly likely to play Morrow there despite the fact Nikishin is clearly a better prospect than Morrow. They know Morrow better and have seen him play, so even if they were the same side I bet RBA would still choose Morrow due to familiarity as well as he’s ahead of Nikishin just because he’s been here working for it all season. RBA rewards those already playing for him over newcomers, who have to earn it. Very old school and player/vet friendly. Very “next man up”. For better or worse that’s how it typically is with the Canes. It was never likely that Nikishin was going walk into a spot for the playoffs, even if he got a couple of late season games under his belt imo.

Russian agent not understanding how the NHL works. Also, he was being sarcastic by channelling what a certain other person would have said in the same situation. Because the player is a drafted player, he can only sign for the rookie min and I think the Russian agent does not realize that

I'm pretty sure he's in touch with Nikishin, though. So it doesn't matter what he understand or not, what matters that Nikishin isn't probably happy.

That’s all fine and dandy but it doesn’t change the fact that Nikishin can still be pissed about it lol. He has no reason to be playing by RBAs rules when he’s one of the top non-NHL players in the world and kids like Buium, Demidov, Snuggerud, etc are getting regular playing time in the playoffs. I’m not sure what Canes fans are missing. It doesnt matter at all if it’s “protocol” for Carolina…

Sit Walker, play Ghost on his off side, and quit this circus.

I guess my response is….”who cares?”.

Even if he was pouty about not playing yet he’ll eventually get his chance. He’s signing an elc, it’s not that complicated. He isn’t going anywhere. Once he’s playing with his teammates on his new team no one is going to remember he wanted to play a game earlier than he did or whatever. Neither side is holding out. I don’t believe or care if this has some impact down the road. If he won’t sign long term it’ll be because he never wanted to sign long term in NC, not because a coach told him he’d have to earn a spot in the lineup. Once he’s playing for RBA he’s gonna understand whatever he didn’t understand before - if he was actually pissed.

Which I don’t believe he is.

reread the tweet.. he was channelling in is inner Trump with how he worded it, There is nothing to be fair about. Rookie cap is in place and we already know what he will sign for

I mean…you should care? Shipachev came over for a year and then bolted back when he didn’t get the type of role he wanted. He could demand a trade or just go back to the KHL if he feels his talents aren’t being used properly.

You are acting like this is a 19 year old rookie signing his ELC. Niki shin is the same age as Sanderson and Faber and I’m sure he wants to be trrated accordingly.

Man, as I said it doesn't matter. Look at Demidov, he's already played 5 games. Nikishin hasn't still played a single one. If you think Nikishin is ok with this, you're delusional.

I like how many fans keep bringing Demidov in this lol.. Demidov has nothing to do with this Nikishin/Canes saga so stop trying to brag about your rookie in every single thread. My goodness it’s insane lol

There likely isn’t any negotiating tactics at this point. They were waiting to see if he was going to get an AHL game, they’ve said the whole time if they need him signed to play he’ll be signed. If he signed with the Canes he couldn’t play in the AHL playoffs and they were maybe going to play him there. Now that the minor league team is out of the playoffs he’ll probably be signed…but he’s unlikely to play yet.

The reason he isn’t playing is RBA isn’t going to play him over the vets, which is why he isn’t playing….not the contract status.

It seems the issue is contract status.

Nikishin didn’t travel half-way around the world for Carolina to not register his contract. Nobody wants to sit around in limbo, with their thumb up their rear-end, with no contract, not knowing if they’ll be sent to the AHL or play in the SC playoffs.

And even if he doesnt play, register his contract and treat him like he’s a valuable member of the team.

No, ELC slides only happen if you are under 20. As soon as it's submitted it will burn year 1
