Rumor: Alexander Nikishin contract dispute?

That offer would probably get beat by another team as things currently stand.

But if Nikishin suddenly signs a contract extension with SKA and stops wanting to come to the NHL unless traded from Carolina, his value could tank a bit.

It's just making a mountain out of nothing on the Hurricanes' management's part.

Sign the friggin' guy and stop jerking around lest.

You only stand to lose by employing such negotiation tactics.
There likely isn’t any negotiating tactics at this point. They were waiting to see if he was going to get an AHL game, they’ve said the whole time if they need him signed to play he’ll be signed. If he signed with the Canes he couldn’t play in the AHL playoffs and they were maybe going to play him there. Now that the minor league team is out of the playoffs he’ll probably be signed…but he’s unlikely to play yet.

The reason he isn’t playing is RBA isn’t going to play him over the vets, which is why he isn’t playing….not the contract status.

I feel like it's a ploy to force Carolina to bite the bullet, pull a healthy vet out to put him in, and let him show what he can do. No player wants to not play...especially in the playoffs, more still when you know you're better than the guy playing instead of you.

I even support it. But...it's posturing and smoke. He's not going anywhere.
Carolina is really dumb for trying to play anything. They have the best D prospect and they’re still pushing. Lol! Time to get real, 31 other teams would have handed a blank check

Absolutely correct. All Canes-fan spin aside, this is the most basic rookie-max contract ever.

He's got to be watching Demidov in the playoffs and wondering WTF he's doing in Carolina.

I doubt anything happens to Nikishin, i'm sure this is a lot of blown up nonsense. But i would pack his luggage, drive him and shave him so he looks good when he is introduced to Carolina for Nikishin
how is that nonsense when his agent in russia said the team's actions make no sense and if the current situation persists nikishin will be forced to ask for a trade or return to the khl.
seems to me nikishin is fed up with the team and wants out.

Russian agent not understanding how the NHL works. Also, he was being sarcastic by channelling what a certain other person would have said in the same situation. Because the player is a drafted player, he can only sign for the rookie min and I think the Russian agent does not realize that

So dumb from Carolina's management. Good job on making the kid already hate the team.
There is something fishy going on for sure. Damage is already done, what a dumb management. The difference how Montreal handled the situation with Demidov is like night and day.

The player's agent looks pissed at Carolina's management... There seems to be problems with getting him signed for some reason.

He even talks about going back to Russia or asking for a trade. Kid is already 23 and will be 24 years old in October.

I think he could return a heck of a package if he ends up traded... Which sounds ridiculous, but when the agent get that loud publicly, it is not a good look.

Can't imagine Canes won't come back to their senses, but still, what could they get for that potential future 1st pair RHD?

He’s a left shot. Still worth a ton. Makes no sense the Canes haven’t signed him. Habs have Demidov playing already.

He’s not playing because RBA wouldn’t play him right now, not because of the contract status. Even if you don’t follow the Canes Emily Kaplan said it right on national TV. How other people have used their late arriving rookies isn’t how RBA works, and for better or worse he couldn’t give a flying fornication about it. He’s not sitting a vet who’s played all season for a zero experience rookie without injuries or presumably a losing streak in the playoffs.

Do you have a link to the Canes management/coach or the player/agent saying that the player is demanding playing time and that’s the sticking point?
