Rumor: Alexander Nikishin contract dispute?

His KHL team’s season is over. What reason would he have to stay over there if the possibility of playing more hockey is available in NA?

He's arguably the best player not in the NHL. Why in the world would he want to sit in limbo with the possibility of getting injured .under a try-out contract in the AHL? He's also not guaranteed a year from his ELC will be taken off.

Unless he's guaranteed playing time in the playoffs, it makes no sense to go to Carolina this year.

I don’t understand the Hangup.

It’s not like he can ask for more than an ELC. Give him that with whatever bonuses and try to have a good relationship with him. No way they’re about to burn a bridge with their top prospect over that are they?
I feel like it's a ploy to force Carolina to bite the bullet, pull a healthy vet out to put him in, and let him show what he can do. No player wants to not play...especially in the playoffs, more still when you know you're better than the guy playing instead of you.

I even support it. But...it's posturing and smoke. He's not going anywhere.

He's not. Tulsky confirmed, they want him to play in the AHL...

Looks like he doesn't.

Are they trying to get him to sign an AHL ATO and an ELC for next year?

My guess is that they want to keep the two years of the ELC. If he signs and burns year 1, then the pressure is on to pay him. The agent and player obviously want to sign now and burn the year because it puts them in a great position to get paid early.

Why would you not give him playing time in the playoffs? Why play hardball with someone this good? Just pull your 3LD and give him a game to show his chops? He's more developed than other guys doing the exact same thing (buium, snuggy). It absolutely should not be the difference between winning and losing and even if it is, the value he's going to provide you over his career is way more valuable. Head scratcher for sure

That’s not the owner or the contract, that’s RBA to the bone. He isn’t going to sit a vet for a guy who hasn’t played a minute. Even if he’s hyped. If we go down a few games or someone gets hurt…maybe.

If you follow the team you didn’t think Nikishin was getting in once the playoffs started and he hadn’t played a game yet. That was because of his visa crap, that wasn’t the Canes either.

Good chance this is all just pure bs. The guy is with the team and their keeping their options open if they want to get him an AHL game.

Not as beneficial to the organization as it may seem. His team control is fixed (5 seasons). A cheap 26-27 is a more expensive 27-28; they’d go into negotiations with an arbitration eligible RFA with 2 years of control rather than one with 3 years and not eligible for arbitration.

He should go back to the KHL next season.

nah I just don't think Pastrnak at 11M is worth as much as people think. Could potentially get a better player in Marner for a bit more than that as a UFA without needing to give up any assets too. Pasta at times has been a net negative in the playoffs due to his inconsistent effort and incredibly poor defense.
Truly one of the worst takes all year on HF boards. Especially adding in the fact you talk about playoffs and then mention Marner of all people as the better player

Carolina needs to stop outsmarting themselves.

They're not a highly desirable place to play, they have a pretty promising prospect here that they simply need to get signed. Do what you need to do to get the deal done because this is a no brainer.
But u cant scratch (insert #6 dman), They have 200 games of experience!

The coach, who’s the one making the decision on whether or not he plays (not the contract status) completely agrees. He’s won the Jack Adams.
Look at the list of Jack Adams winners. Goat coach only has two. Only one guy has three. It's a most improved award, not a best coach award.

That owner is a problem. Fine, Jircek for Nikishin.

That offer would probably get beat by another team as things currently stand.

But if Nikishin suddenly signs a contract extension with SKA and stops wanting to come to the NHL unless traded from Carolina, his value could tank a bit.

It's just making a mountain out of nothing on the Hurricanes' management's part.

Sign the friggin' guy and stop jerking around lest.

You only stand to lose by employing such negotiation tactics.
