Rumor: Alexander Nikishin contract dispute?

nah I just don't think Pastrnak at 11M is worth as much as people think. Could potentially get a better player in Marner for a bit more than that as a UFA without needing to give up any assets too. Pasta at times has been a net negative in the playoffs due to his inconsistent effort and incredibly poor defense.
Wrong as usual when it comes to anything Bruins.

People were laughing when I asked how long until he bolts

So because his Russian agent, who has done everything he can to keep him with the KHL and in Russia, believes he’s ready to bolt back to Russia after less than a month (and his American agent has denied there’s any issue), you’re ready to take your victory lap?

You do you, I guess.

To Chicago:
:hawks
-Alexander Nikishin

To Carolina:
:canes
-Kevin Korchinski

Best part:

The Rockford Ice Hogs and Chicago Wolves are facing each other in a best of 3 in the AHL playoffs.

Korchinski played game 1 for Rockford and then could get traded to the Wolves before game 2.

Would be epic.

Top 5 pick moves the needle very little for the Canes frankly, and nothing else the bruins have is even remotely interesting to give up Nikishin. Obviously it’d be Nikishin + for Pasta (although that value could change once we actually see him play in the NHL and if he gets a good value contract this summer which is rumored to be in the cards). Personally I wouldn’t even do Nikishin for Pasta straight up, but I’m also higher on Nikishin than anyone and think he’ll be a cost controlled Hedman caliber 2 way 1D within the next few years. Odds are I’m wrong on that but we’ll see soon enough

The initial proposal I replied to was a complete joke
😲

First of all, what does this “Signed” mean ? He signed some sports cards autographs?

Secondly, did they make him a tourist visa ? Without a signed contract, there’s no way he’s getting a work visa

People take social media posts too literally. The contract is signed, it's just not registered (submitted to the league to make it official) per the GM himself. And a tryout agreement would get him a work visa

So wait. Nikishin did everything he was supposed to. He got his KHL contract terminated early, flew to Carolina, obtained a Visa and work permit, and signed his ELC. Yet Carolina is intentionally not registering it?
What type of Mickey Mouse stuff is that? And people are blaming his Russian agent for being PO'd?

I wonder how that would play out legally if he were to be injured in practice.

I don’t think you can blame people for taking a post like that literally.

People understand “signed a contract” to mean that the contract has been executed/ratified because that’s what “signing” means 99.9% of the time.

Blame the Canes social media for jumping the gun when they could have said “agreed to terms” instead.

At the time, yes, absolutely.

But still using it as evidence of it being done when the GM has stated otherwise makes no sense.

Kind of surprising in the sense that they'd let it get publicly critical like this with their top prospect. Utterly unsurprising, in that we've known for ages that the Hurricanes are biggest pain in the ass team to deal with. Perpetual cheapskates, miserly negotiators, sort of "penny wise, pound foolish". It seems pretty clear that very few teams or agents like dealing with them.

If some of their key, core guys ever start to fall off a bit...they're going to be in dire straights, because their consistent competitiveness is really the only thing that keeps bringing other teams, agents, etc. to the table with them, even though it's a miserable slog. If they become a less competitive team, nobody is going to put up with their "eccentricities".

Any animosity will result from what Carolina told Nikishin before he crossed the pond.

Did they tell him he'd play in the playoffs? Or did Nikishin know he'd be kept in limbo with the possibility of playing in the AHL under a try-out contract?

I seriously doubt Nikishin would go to North America in the latter scenario.

His KHL team’s season is over. What reason would he have to stay over there if the possibility of playing more hockey is available in NA?

It’s a place called home??

He's stated that he wants to play in NA. So for the next few years, at least, NA is his new home. And again, if you asked him if he'd want to chill at home in Russia or have the opportunity to play in the playoffs in the NHL, he'd probably tell you he'd want the opportunity to play.
