Value of: Alexander Holtz

Neutral fan here:

I see this guy in a number of NJD trade proposals. The scouting reports on him are quite favorable. Why is Holtz available and what is a fair offer for him?
Holtz is available because the Devils are looking to turn the corner into contention now and Holtz is a prospect. We have to give to get, and since he's not on the roster at the moment, trading him represents a straight improvement—not any different from trading a 1st round pick, really.

But that said, we're not... like, looking to sell him or anything. But for a Tkachuk? Hell yeah, he's on the market.

Can we have this guy in Detroit, please? PLeeeeaaase!

Might it be something along Bertuzzi for Holtz + something valuable? Something valuable is really needed here as Bert is excellent 2nd line winger.
No. Again, we're not looking to sell Holtz. We're looking to buy a top-line forward, and Holtz is one of the only assets we have that counts as valid currency in that kind of exchange.

Kid apparently came to camp this year way bigger. I personally don’t want to trade him. Mercer looked better last year but maybe a player with Holtz’s skill set takes s little longer to develop properly.

That extra size could prove to be a negative considering he couldn't keep up with his feet last year

Hey Devils Peeps, is anyone on the Kings roster established enough for you guys?
I really think you underestimate what Holtz could become

Some may be underestimating him because they have reservations around his skating (not really a concern) and his hockey IQ (a valid concern).

But, I haven't seen any Devils fans just looking to trade him away for the sake of it. It's almost always the case that he's included in a bigger package to immediately improve the lineup, like a proposal for Tkachuk. Not sure if a Kings player fits that bill.

Probably should be put into the Miller thread but some sort of package deal around him and Severson?

Severson + Holtz + pick for JT Miller + Poolman + Dipietro

The only reason is because I (as do most Devils fans) feel like we are one top line forward away from "completing" our forward core...so if we could package him in a deal for an established top line player ala Tkachuk or Meier, then I would do it in a heartbeat. Their prospect core is also very deep at the moment, so they are in the position to be able to make a move like that.

I would not trade him for lesser pieces, draft picks, etc. Wouldn't even consider it.

I'm in the minority for CBJ fans here but I'd do Bjorkstrand for Holtz straight up. Or something around Roslovic ++ (but I'm a Roslovic hater, so)

devil's fan have developed an allergy to miller trade proposals, especially if we deal with
poolman = negative value
dipietro = zero value
as add-ons.

He actually came in lighter but more muscular

Miller is not the guy to trade Holtz for imo. I really like JT and would definitely work something around Severson, but of the "available" names being bandied about, only Tkachuk or Pasternak would interest me as far as Holtz goes

A redraft down at mid season had him going in at I think 14th overall.

Lundell, Jarvis and Mercer at least jump ahead of him and I know Quinn (although unimpressive in the playoffs) and Peterka had amazing AHL production, but Holtz was also PPG in the AHL. Hardly any of these guys have played a full season in the NHL yet so I don't know if 7 players jump ahead of him, maybe 5 at most. The whole 2020 redraft probably changes drastically when more players play a full NHL season.

Mercer making the roster overshadowed Holtz.

He's been training with Bratt all summer. He'll be highly motivated to make the team. We've been kind of sleeping on him for sure.

Now the Tkachuk saga is over, I don't think he'll be available in a trade.

If timo meier is available, holtz would be an interesting part of the deal. Holtz and William eklund from SJ are friends and played together

Most Devils fans here just want the team to waste cap space on a estabilished guy that could help the team make the offs just to be manhandled in the first round. Of course, Fitz thinks very different from that.

Holtz is perfect for what we need. A sniper for the PP and a guy that could feast on Hughes' passes.

not gonna name drop anyone, people can post whatever they feel like... just take a look at how many proposals have been made about the Devils trading 2rd overall, 23' first, Holtz and other futures for players like Pasta, JT Miller, Tkachuk. All great players but would only make sense with Bratt going the other way or they wouldn't be able to fit them all and even if they somehow could, still would be needing a true goalie that wouldn't come cheap in salary unless Daws somehow becomes a starter out of nowhere. That would handicap the team going forward when they would be ready to really challenge for the cup
