Neutral fan here:

I see this guy in a number of NJD trade proposals. The scouting reports on him are quite favorable. Why is Holtz available and what is a fair offer for him?

I would love to make a trade for Holtz
Something like a youth vs youth trade but so far, the Devils peeps said, he is not on the table since they need wingers most

Most fans are only including him for trade proposals for nhl proven young players like tkachuk, mier, fiala and Debrincat types other than a select few most nj fans would love to keep him but some are weary of his skating

Kid apparently came to camp this year way bigger. I personally don’t want to trade him. Mercer looked better last year but maybe a player with Holtz’s skill set takes s little longer to develop properly.

I'd like to see what he could do on either Draisaitl's or McDavid's wing, but the cost of acquiring Holtz might be prohibitive.

Most Devil fans I've seen are using him in packages to acquire top end players, and this is quite simply because the alternative is including Hughes, Nemec or Mercer and they don't want to do that.

Although, there is one Devils fan that likes to make trade proposals a lot and include him in almost every one, and that makes it look like there are more of them willing to dump him.

I wouldn't move Holtz unless a Tkachuk level player is coming back, no prospect for prospect deals or him for a questionable top line guy like Bertuzzi

Has some warts, has a great shot and upside. Basically still not sure where he'll fall - top 6 winger? We are impatient as a fanbase.

I personally want to keep him around... seeing how he has just one AHL season in his North American career.

???

If he gets moved, it's likely as the centerpiece of a move for an very good, established player.
who is that and why?

Post the established star you will be getting for a guy who has played only 9 games so far?

TO put it in context. Ask any oiler fan on our board. I love Swedes and his Swedish home team is one of those teams that are great at developing players. But at the NHL level has has not done anything, He has had a good AHL season and looks to be good. But how good is unknown. A redraft down at mid season had him going in at I think 14th overall.

Devils are better to keep him

someone should tell him they make creams for that these days...

You know that trades for established vets for packages centered on prospects and picks happen all the time, right? That's fairly standard

I think the concept is that most of the trades for a top line type wing are proposed as a first, a roster player, and a prospect. NJ fan proposals have generally been for wings to play with Hughes or Hischier since the RFA market has featured them this season (Fiala, Debrincat, Tkahcuk, maybe Meier depending upon which direction SJ goes). In that hypothetical world, NJ has a potentially valuable unprotected '23 first rounder and a couple of solid to excellent roster players to offer in a Sharangovich or a Bratt or even a Severson depending upon the team, but their available prospects are limited. They have two guys that are virtually untouchable in L. Hughes and Nemec. They have a number of good second tier defense prospects but they won't move the needle in a trade. They have Gritsyuk as an excellent wing prospect but he's in Russia and still has a KHL contract for another year so Holtz is more or less the best name prospect by process of elimination. I don't think any NJ fan expects Calgary to trade Tkachuk for Holtz and a second.

?

Debrincat was just traded for a package that included a whopping 0 games of NHL experience going back the other way

Include him for the higher salaried, more established player(s) that the team obtaining Tkachuk need to move to get cap compliant.

I don't think it's that they want to move him exactly. I think it's that they want to get better and don't want to move Luke Hughes or Mercer. You have to give up something valuable in a trade.

Seems pretty easy, they have a lot of talent at the wings and an opportunity to get an established star. I don't know if they go through with it for Tkachuk, there has to be an extension, but there is a possible match there.

In fairness, you see him in trades for established stars, ones who are very young, or point per game players who they feel could extend and give them a real #1/2 winger. They don't just toss him around to fill any hole.

Go away. You took a post about moving him for an established star (You know - the ones who aren't signing with teams and/or wanting out), and turned it into trying to downplay their 9 game only player, as if those recent trade offers were 1-1. Yeah, the word center piece was used by one of their fans but every thread involved number pieces, most also including their 2023 first (protected or not).

Hey Devils Peeps, is anyone on the Kings roster established enough for you guys?
I really think you underestimate what Holtz could become
