Value of: Alex Vlasic in a trade

He's produced significantly better at a 5v5 raw level and per 60 rate than Bedard over the last two years.

I'm not sure I get the argument. What do you think Vlasic turns into?
He produced playing with 2 1st liners. Bedard plays primarily with a 3rd liner and a 4th liner

The argument is you have 2 younger guys about the same age and you project improvement for only 1 of them.
If you project Laf turns into a 1st line, line driver. Then would it be wrong to project the same amount of improvement for Vlasic?
Why does only Laf improve?

Yeah Laf is a fine young player but he's got way more support than Bedard.

Let's be fair here - that third liner significantly outscored him at 5v5 when they played together.

But yeah, I'm taking Panarin all day over Donato.

I wouldn't trade Vlasic for 5 Lafrenieres lol

Don’t see why you’d move him. Would offer 2 first for him from MN. That’s a nice contract he’s on too.

Vlasic will be on the shortlist for consideration for US best-on-best teams going forward.

He’s very tall with the reach of a condor, moves the puck well, is very mobile and is able to carry the puck the length of the ice, is reasonably physical, consistently plays a very good to excellent shutdown game, is improving offensively, is capable of playing 25+ minutes a game, has only two years of real NHL experience, and is only 23 and still improving.

He’s a big projectable shutdown 2D with still untapped offensive upside. He should not be traded.

I don't want to trade - the only reason I proposed a trade was to use an asset we have in abundance to acquire an asset we need but don't have. We need a top-6 winger to play with Bedard to help Bedard untap his scoring potential. The only asset the Hawks have that could bring back a legit top-6 winger is Vlasic.

Two first round picks is nice but it doesn't meet the criteria of acquiring that top-6 winger now - not 2 or 3 years down the road when those 1st rounders possibly turn into NHL'ers.

Rossi?

Would be shocked if Vlasic ever plays for the US Olympic team.

The criteria is: legit top-6, young - in the 22/23/24 range, and 6' or taller. Rossi is only 5'9". The purpose of this trade is to add size into the top-6 because the Hawks have a bunch of sub-6' guys like Bedard and Nazar already in the lineup and the top guys in the system who aren't still at least a year away - Moore, Lardis, Kantserov are all under 6'.
