So JJ Peterka?
There's no way you're a Hawks fanWhat could Alex Vlasic get the Blackhawks in a trade?
The Hawks have a lot of young left handed d-men with potential and NHL games under their belt (Vlasic, Korchinski, Kaiser, del Mastro, Allan) - but what they don't have at the NHL level are young top-6 wingers already established in the NHL. Is there a win-win trade out there to be found?
Vlasic details:
LD with very good skating, can skate the puck out, plays top PK.
23 years old (turns 24 in June)
6'6" / 217 lbs
179 NHL games in top-4 role (mostly top-pairing this past season)
7 goals / 42 assists = 49 points (offense improving with 4 goals / 26 assist = 30 points this past season)
Contract: $4.6M for 5 more years - UFA in 2030.

Why not move Korchinski instead?
Are you looking at this a bit like dealing a valuable player from a position of strength, like Montreal moving Romanov for a 1st at the 2022 draft ? And you're looking at moving the most valuable thinking he'll get the best return ?You're right - I just spent 71 years pretending to be a Hawks fan so that one day I could post something on hfboards that Musto doesn't agree with and revoke my Hawks fanclub membership. I love when a plan comes together.

I'd think a team entering or in contention but with a weak blueline and a surplus of offensive forwards would be the best fit.Alex Vlasic is the exact sort of mobile shutdown guy the Jackets need.
But from the Hawks perspective I can't imagine them trading him if they're not getting Kent Johnson or Fantilli or Marchenko back. And we're not doing that. The next young forwards down like Voronkov or Chinakhov or Sillinger aren't what the Hawks need. I don't see how to make it happen.
Not that they should trade Vlasic, but Korchinski doesn't return a topline forward, which is the purpose in the OP.
But then you need a haul. You don’t consider trading him unless a team seriously overpays. So it’s an extremely unlikely scenario.Yes.

By haul I mean an overpay. A team that would call the Hawks because Vlasic is who they want specifically and they are willing to pay above the market price. Given Vlasic’s contract, I would not consider Kent Johnson an overpay. That depends on what you mean by "haul". I see this trade as a one for one - quality for quality trade - not a haul as in multiple players being exchanged. A previous comment mentioned Kent Johnson - that would work one for one.
There's no way karma will allow the Hawks to receive another 1st overall pick unless it's a major bust.is this in a world where the Hawks draft first overall in 2025 and grab Schaefer?
unless karma dictates the Blackhawks cannot have a chance at McKenna. There's no way karma will allow the Hawks to receive another 1st overall pick unless it's a major bust.
I already have 666 goats prepared for sacrifice to make sure that doesn't happen.unless karma dictates the Blackhawks cannot have a chance at McKenna.
I understand and respect your opinion but the question of "why" is clearly spelled out in the original post.
If Korchinski or del Mastro or Allan or Kaiser could get the type of player needed to play with Bedard - I would have proposed one of them - but I don't believe any of them could return a player better than what we already have like Donato or Bertuzzi or Mikheyev. I'm shooting for a player like a Seth Jarvis or a Dylan Guenther.

Trading Vlasic for JJ Peterka would be an awful move for the Hawks. There is no reason they should even consider trading Vlasic, no forward upgrade would be worth it.Yes, I'd strongly consider Paterka - he's big enough, been in the league 3 years and improved each year and got 68 points in 77 games this year. He is RFA so he would need to be signed - but yeah, I think I could go for that.

He's a cornerstone defenseman. Drafts some more young forwards, or pick someone up in free agency. If Vlasic were ever actually traded, the return would be enormous. Teams would be falling over eachother trying to outbid the other.
