Haven’t really seen anyone talk about this kid. He was looking like a man amongst boys in the development camp and recently returned to game action with the Marlies and has 6 points in 4 games (5 goals)…

Any feedback or scouting report from people who actually watch the Marlies?
 
He's an underrated undrafted prospect. I think he's going to be called up this year and people will then realize how good he is. Hot Take - I think this guy is going to be a staple in our top 9 for years to come.

He's a strong and fast skater that has a very good 2-way game. He's been just mind boggling good for the Marlies and constantly one of their top forwards. His first AHL goal about a few weeks or so ago just pretty much shows how good he is. There have been plenty of talks about him in the Marlies/Prospect thread.

I don't know if he can keep up that offensive pace but he's been taking advantage of most chances he gets. He seems to have a knack at finding odd-man rushes and breakaways with his speed and tenacity.

So what you're saying is he's an Ilya Mikheyev with a scoring touch?
 
He had a very high shot volume IIRC (like 4 shots a game on average) in the NCAA, so to see him scoring in the AHL isn't surprising. Hopefully he can keep it up, I think he was an under-rated signing this offseason. He's looked good even going back to training camp.

UPDATE: Alex Steeves was not on the original list published Tuesday morning. While Kyle Dubas named Steeves specifically before this season as one he thought could challenge for a spot in the Leafs lineup, his call-up still represents something of a surprise.

The 21-year-old had a strong start to his rookie AHL season, having produced 12 points in 12 AHL games. But those 12 games are his only ones at the pro level, which would suggest he needed a little more seasoning before making his NHL debut. He spent three seasons at the University of Notre Dame and while he has a scoring touch, he recently told The Athletic he understands that if he will succeed in the NHL it will more than likely be as a defensively-responsible shut down forward. He’s a strong skater and showcases a maturity that should put Keefe at ease when he’s on the ice.

“I want to be a player where I can play every single situation, wherever they need me to play, whether it be top six, bottom six, adding some speed and some offence to a lower line and playing really good shutdown minutes. I feel like I’m the type of player where I can do everything,” he said in November.

His hope is that the offensive side of his game will show more and more as earns more professional games, similar to that of fellow Notre Dame alum and Penguins forward Bryan Rust, who Steeves said was an influence of his.

“I want to be a guy who coaches can really trust,” said Steeves. “My eyes are set on getting really, really better, playing the long game, and when my time comes with the Leafs I’m going to jump on it.”
 
Pretty smart kid. His eyes are on the right prize - get better at everything. Good attitude.

He’s got lots of speed, tenacity, decent size, two-way game. Don’t see why he can’t be a complementary top-six guy.

He's been OK I'm not going to form an opinion based on 2 games but there is a spot there for the taking with Mekyehev out
 
I don't expect his time to permanently stick with the club to be now considering three lineup fixtures at forward are currently out. Hopefully he can make a good case for the future.
