Romanov has developed into a legit beast for us. He stepped up big time this year. Hes still really young. We should be signing him long term.

He was a horse this year. Felt like he was on the ice for like half of the game when the blueline was decimated and looking up to the challenge. He’s definitely young enough to be part of the solution on Long Island. Schaefer and Romanov is the kind of 1-2 punch you build around on the left side of that defense.

It seems like I might have a lower opinion of him than most Isles fans. To me he’s a solid #4 defenseman 2 way defenseman that lays big hits. I really don’t see him as untouchable but maybe I’m in the minority here.

Yea I don’t see a point in moving him unless we get an overpay. I think he’s a good #3 with potential to be a good #2. Physical and very good defensively. Reminds me a bit of Hamonic in his prime, but a better skater and left handed.

He’s not untouchable but Pelech is the guy to move if we draft Schaefer.

I think it also depends on the new GMs plans. If they are thinking of a deep rebuild, picks or younger guys make sense. I also think defensive defensemen should never be untouchable.

Sort of just thinking through options post lottery, but if the Isles take Schaefer, they'll have a bit of a log jam at LHD. George showed he's not out of place on an NHL roster this season, and we have recent 2nd rounders Pulkinnen and Odelius developing in Bridgeport (Bolduc as well). This is in addition to Pelech (M-NTC) and Perunovich (RFA) under team control at the NHL level (plus UFA Mike Reilly).

Obviously love Romanov (RFA this summer) but maybe there's a team that would trade a similar aged top 6 forward for him?

Honestly some combination of picks/prospects. Ideally to move the contract off completely and clear the cap of his hit/term.

If they take Schaefer it doesn't mean he is ready to play next year. Also Romanov is still young so there is no rush to move him. Maybe get him on a long term deal at a reasonable cap hit and his value would be more in 2 years imo. There is also no rule about having too many quality NHL level dmen.

I’d take Buium and the 2nd. Additional years of ELC even if he’s slightly more of a project.

Romy is the absolutely last dman on this roster you consider trading. Im going to guess Pelech has one year left on the Island then he'll be traded. Isles 26-27 Defense:

Romanov- Dobson
Schaefer-Pulock

Mayfields term given style is the only issue. With the cap hits where they are at now and going forward, these are easy contracts for value.
