Hi Kings fans. I've been watching Roach play a lot this year with the Hitmen and was curious as to how you guys value him. He's a player who I'd like the Flames to acquire. What would it take to get him do you think?

I'm not sure. I haven't been following the Hitmen very closely, but as a casual Blades fan, I noticed they are again a strong team and can pour it on when needed (as evidenced by their 9-4 drubbing of the Blades the other night). I would gather Roach is one of their better players.

However, Dean Lombardi seems less inclined to trade prospects unless it will bring in an impact player. Quite honestly, I don't see anything on the Flames that would be an immediate impact player. Iginla does not seem to be the player he was 5 years ago. He would be a role player on the Kings and not someone who would substantially improve the Kings. Plus, I figure Iginla has maybe three years left, if that. I don't want to see the Kings trade away their future for essentially a player in the twilight of his career. However, even the most impressive Junior player can turn out to be a dud. I'd say Colten Teubert is case in point. So Alex Roach may very well be available to the Flames in a year or two.

Though, I could see Dean Lombardi making the deal so long as Calgary's first this year is in the mix. Though, I don't see the deal happening with out a first rounder in the mix. I also don't think the Kings will trade a veteran player along side Roach to Calgary anyhow. Next year the Flames join the Kings' division, so trading within your division is always a bad idea.

Truth is you know more of Roach than all of us. We're more interested to hear your opinions on Roach and what your would feel is as fair offer for him.

I noticed he's not playing in every game lately. How come ? Injury, healthy scratch, rest ?

What do you think of him anyway ?

He's not a premium prospect, but he's gone from total junk last year, to an excellent junior player this year. I like guys with positive growth trajectories. I'd say he's one of the top 15 defensemen in the WHL this year. Last year, he wasn't even top 50. He's big, can handle the puck and skates decently. I wouldn't move a Glencross or Giordano type piece for him, but I'd move a Stempniak (with us getting a 3rd back too) or Butler for him.

Whoa that's way too rich of a price for a guy like Stempniak. I'd do a 3rd or 4th for Stempniak, nothing more.

Well he would be your second leading scorer ;). Him and Glencross are consistently underrated by other fanbases. Iginla and Cammalleri are consistently overrated. Stempniak is an excellent defensive player too. Him and Glencross always get the oppositions top lines. I get that he doesn't have the name factor, but he's underrated in the same way Voynov and King are for you guys.

He plays on our third line with Glencross and either Stajan or Backlund. I think he'd be a 3rd liner in LA too. 15 of his 19 points are ES or SH. Those numbers translate anywhere. That said, Stempniak isn't the point of this thread.

I'd like to hold onto Roach, Gravel and Forbort if at all possible. It would be interesting if all 3 could make to kings roster around the same time.

I agree. Do you think Calgary would/will move Glencross? If yes, what would you want from L.A?

Ive seen a ton of Roach play and if you like Muzzin you will love Roach. Roach is allot like Muzzin only with slightly better O and more of a physical game. Kid can play and is right there with most of our D prospects, on their way to the NHL.

We'll keep him.

Depends on what type of pizza's they are. Are we talking Chicago, New York, or cracker style crust? Regular or whole wheat crust? Now if there is bacon on the pizza's, it doesn't matter what type of crust it is, because bacon makes everything better.

What if it is one of those Pizza Ranch desert pizza's? Had one of those in ND and it was especially good. You could be right, add bacon to it and I might just die!

I don't think the Flames will move Glencross. He signed for half of what he'd make on the open market because he wants to stay on his ranch. He has a full NTC and from what I've heard, Ken King promised he would never ask him to waive it. He'd be the asset I'd be most shocked to hear was traded. More so than Bartschi even. Glencross is a little bit old school, apparently he signed without an agent after going trail riding with King.

But, if he were hypothetically available you wouldn't like the asking price. He is our best player by a fairly wide margin. He does everything well. Basically Dustin Brown with more goal scoring ability.

I think you should keep him, I just thought he might be undervalued a bit. I agree that his offense is better than Muzzin's, just disagree that he's more physical. Bigger yes, just not more physical.

Thats fair.

I can see it from both sides. I see his physical game developing and being further along at this point in comparison.

I think Roach is being a bit overrated here. I like the kid, and love that we got him for nothing, but he's not up to Muzzin's level IMO. I think he's more along the lines of a Aaron Miller type. A big body that can clear the front of the net, but I don't think the offensive numbers he's showing this season will transition over to the pro level. I hope it does, but I don't see it.

Muzz is 4 years older than Roach with a few years of Pro coaching. Muzz didn't show much O in Manch with less than .5 per game and even less his his season. You never kno with some of these kids. Some just all of a sudden get it and I'm pretty sure no one thought Muzz would be contributing like he has been. It'll be interesting to see how Roach progresses.

Hey, if he turns into something great, I'll be the first to congratulate him. I'm just being honest in saying that I don't see the offense translating over.

As for Muzzin, I seen his offense translating over to the NHl better, even from when he was in junior. Now granted, I didn't think he'd have 11 points in 24 games, but I did see him being a 25-35 point guy in his prime, assuming he made it.

Roach, I just don't get that vibe. I hope I'm wrong honestly, but as I said, I just see him as more of a stay-at-home type, putting up Sean O'Donnell, Aaron Miller, Matthias Nordstrom type numbers. Granted, I'd love it if he ended up as being a clone of any of those three. Miller seems the most likely to me.

A little OT but this is awesome  I love hearing about player personalities.

I would love Glencross in LA, however he will not wiave his no trade out of Alberta. He signed a deal for less than market value to get the no trade. He hasa ranch here.

Edit: I see someone already posted this....move along

Oh, come on now, what's with that spelling? He was the team captain for Pete's sake! :)
