He couldn't come back if he wanted to.

The NHL changed the LTIR loophole for the playoffs so Vegas would have to trade a bunch of players just to fit him in.

What if he's cleared by a doctor to play? What can Vegas do to stop him from playing besides trading him, or like you said, trading a bunch of players to fit him?

The man was having his femur reconstructed at 35, it would be awesome to see him back but no one would fault him for just wanting to spend time with his family at this point

2 Cups, Olympic gold, World Cup gold, easy 1st ballot HHOF career, literally nothing left to prove

Uh, its vegas. They aren't above holding him hostage a la Cassidy.
Well, they can’t fire Petro like they fired Cassidy so…not sure what your point is exactly?

Unless Vegas can prove he’s unfit and absolutely should be on LTIR, I don’t see how they could stop Petro from playing and counting against the cap…as long as he was actually healthy enough to play and wanted to. Those are 2 really big ifs but if he really wants to and he’s physically able to, how would Vegas stop him?

Any rumors of him making a comeback?

The Vegas D in this Stanley Cup Final was atrocious.

The atrocious D may have had something to do with the excellence of the team across the ice.

In 2013, for example, the Blackhawks turn styled Chara. It was less about his quality than the players he was going up against.

In 2022 Colorado dummied a great TBL defense. Same story.

I think Carolina has a way of giving opposing D fits. That said, Rasmus Andersson didn't do himself any favors going into UFA with the way he played.

Wow he can wind up some silly gimmick for a few seconds. Good for him I guess?
Not exactly the point. Vegas does this to honor one guest in attendance, usually a local or national celebrity or like someone worthy of honor in the Vegas community.

If it were me and I wanted to come back to the NHL and was not allowed because my contracted team's cap situation, I wouldn't agree to do something like this, do it wearing my team's branded clothes, and look that excited to hype up the team and crowd. I'd sit my ass at home to watch the game.

How do you know he badly wants to come back? Has he texted you this? He can still do circus tricks like that and get paid his millions without having to risk more injuries. Seems like he has it made.

My original post is basically Vegas had no morals. They will suit themselves however they wish if it means better chances to win. If Peter wants to come back but they don't want him to, they can find a way so he doesn't play I'm sure. They are about winning, not catering to Angelo's feefees.

I don't but that's what I'm saying. He's not in that situation where he's being trapped by Vegas.

So they’d have to trade him

If Pietrangelo wants to come back and is physically cleared, Vegas welcomes him back with open arms.

They would hope to know by July 1 if he will come back so they can plan their offseason. The Zamboni driver also needs to know who the team wants to send to the LTIR this season so he can plan their "accident".
