The issue here is that Newhook is a fast skater and not a good skater. And that significantly hampers him at playing C where he can't create any separation from defenders. He also just isn't a bottom 6 style player. You're best bet is him 3rd wheeling on the 2nd line as a winger, but even then I don't know if his talent is good enough to be a top 6 guy on a contending team. Just would be hard to pay any major value for a guy with his skill set really.

Habs fans been talking about how Newhook was better and worth more than Zegras for awhile now, how about now?

Really ? Doesn’t Dach have a ton more potential ? Newhook is just a blah player . Reminds me of the Dvorak deal . Too much for a middling talent

Dach has more potential but will he realiste it?
And furthure more, Dach is a way better wigner than he is a center

Meanwhile, Newhook bring similar talent to the table (less stickhandling but way faster) and I'd actually argue that he's a better center than Dach.

Amazing how both him and Jost fizzled out. How did the Avs get both of these players so wrong. Both seem like theyre great hardworking NHLers, but the points dont come.

Look for a thread where someone says "if your team needs an offensive defenseman who's trying to find his offense ..." Then propose a swap.
Nah we have enough of those already, and our greenie coach dislikes the stay at home types. I'm looking for value in terms of picks or in terms of similar players we could get 1 for 1, given normal performances. How to define normal? Well that's up to posters really.

Why, exactly, do the Ducks entertain that offer? Zegras may be traded at some point but it’s not for a downgrade. It’ll be in a package for an upgrade, a player who fits whatever Verbeek is trying to build, or for a different position of need. Newhook is none of those.
Lol, I knew this was coming after I read that other comment. Zegras is pure ass lmao.

1. Who tf said this? Proof or it didn’t happen.

2. Zegras is equally terrible right now, so it wouldn’t even be some crazy statement at this point anyway.

You can think this all you want but his value is plummeting every day right now. If he doesn't turn things around soon nobody is gonna have interest in him "In a package for an upgrade"

And for the record all I said was Newhook+ for Zegras+. Nothing about the rest of the value of the deal. The pluses from Montreal would certainly be more.

What other comment are you referring to?

And if Zegras is ass, what does that make Newhook, who’s season high is a whopping 34 points?!
Newhook had a higher points per game than Zegras last year lmao. Zegras has been ass for a while now 😂

Logically speaking, what other reason would they have to trade him if it weren’t for an upgrade, player who fits the system better, or a player who fills another positional need? He’s already shown what he’s capable of and has a high ceiling, so there’s really no reason whatsoever to trade him if it doesn’t help improve the team. And whether he’s slumping or not, Newhook does nothing for them. Holding on to Zegras for his potential alone would be a better than trading him away for Newhook, who’s accomplished half of what Zegras has so far. And you’re right you said Newhook+, but Newhook as the main piece is a deal breaker from the start.

Is that something special when he only scored 34 points and you’re comparing it to a season where Zegras missed camp and then was injured most of the season. Talk to me when he’s hit 60+ like Zegras has twice already. Ppg means very little when you’re only talking about 34 points and that being his highest points total of his career so far.

And again, what other comment are you referring to because I had no other comments in the thread except the one your replied to.

And your definition is comical considering he was very good up until just last season. That doesn’t equal “for awhile now”.

Wasn’t he just dealt for a 1 st ?
Highway robbery from the Aves because he's a fourth-line player on any quality team. His only positive attribute is speed.

Both major trades to accelerate the rebuild in Montreal, acquiring young talent to supplement the core of Suzuki and Caufield, have proven egregious; Colorado and Chicago knew what they were doing.

Lol, you’re confused buddy. I didn’t suggest that trade; it was another poster.

Zegras is on an 18 points pace.
