even with everybody healthy habs will not finish outside of bottom 7. We still have the worst D in the league and the worst bottom 6 with the average goalies. stop trying to think this team will go from 28th team to 16-20. wont happen
Now it's sure but we saw few good games of Laine so his addition could help us a lot if he was healthy. Now that he's gone, that's 100% sure.

The forgotten player. Everyone talks about Laine, Kirby coming back from injury, Slafkovsky progression from last season but nobody mentions Newhook.

I was impressed with the way Newhook finished off the season last year. People are sleeping on him, I think he will impress especially since he will get the chance to play with quality players instead of having to carry Gallagher.
Dach with Armia is already good, they could add Roy or Heineman. Newhook will be better playing wing with Kapanen center and Anderson. 4th line is Evans-Gallagher-Dvorak. Pezz, Tuch, ABB extra.

I thought both Roy-Newhook-Armia were dangerous last year. Even Gallagher-Newhook-Armia were good when Roy went down.

So my thinking heading into this season is if Roy-Newhook-Armia were our 3rd line, we'd be able to roll three lines that come in waves.

But we'll see how Laine-Dach-Newhook do. Newhook is certainly at least 6th best offensive player, so it makes sense to try him on the second line.
Or split talent and make sure your 3rd line have a minimum good effective results.

Why do you want to punish Kapanen with Anderson?
We have no choice playing Anderson. He's paid 6,5 and ufa players take note how teams treat the players especially when paid such big money. Third line could fit him but my choice would be play Anderson 4th line, waive him, etc. We were not playing for the PO anyway. And Laine is gone.

But I mean Laine is not the 18 years old player he used to be. Futur will tell but it's not logical to think that a GM who paid a top 35 overall to get rid of a player that this player will suddenly become a ppg player..

Newhook gained crucial experience last year, playing out of his comfort zone, and responding pretty well. This year, he's bound to have higher quality linemates and lower competition, so I think he's going to be in a position to succeed. I think he's a goal scoring threat in every situation. Love his hustle and I love his talent. I think he's slightly underrated for the latter.

I agree there are a lot of tools to get excited about with Newy, but I worry his vision and IQ will limit him somewhat.

He's an effective player off the rush, or when being set up in a trigger spot, but I don't see him as a guy who will slow down the game as much and find options that aren't obvious to him.

I have never been terribly high on Newhook. If hrs a mainstay in your top 6 then your top 6 needs work imo. Hoping both Demidov and Laine we push him down.

Him and Roy were pretty terrible last night.. hopefully late season Newhook arrives on game 1 of the regular season.
I'll give Newhook a pass cause he's established as an NHL'er and was solid enough last year.

Roy on the other hand is playing like he's been in the league for 10 years and he somehow made Josh Anderson look better than him.

With his caphit, I think that's the idea. He's a middle6 player and that's more or less fine. I wouldn't have traded high-value picks for him but they were betting on his upside (and I think he's a client of Hughes' agency, so they have an inside track feeling about him). On the other hand, Josh Anderson is also a client of the agency and he's only gotten worse.

Agree with both points, Newhook is hustling at the very least, I just think he needs to find his role asap.

For Roy, absolutely, he seems to take his place for granted, which is exactly what he was doing in juniors, wouldn't mind sending him back to Laval just so he remembers he has to work to earn it.

He will be on the 3rd line next year which is ideal, because then he's a top 6 fill-in or rotational piece and he has the skill to do so.
