I haven't shared my opinion on this topic yet but MSL playing him is not exactly a great argument, it's not like he had great options....

I still think he can be a useful player for us down the road for us as a bottom 6 player. He is signed to a friendly deal. Now, if he gets traded, I won't lose any sleep over it but don't expect much in return...

To me, if Newhook cannot develop into a better offensive player than he is right now, we have no use for him. He's not good enough offensively for the top 6, and as a bottom 6 player did we not see against the caps that these type of players don't work well in a playoffs setting ?

That's not enough, I think that level of forecheck is easily replaced.

As for his zone entries, I wish he would do something with it. At this point, he's Scott Gomez without the vision. Gains the zone, loses the puck.

Thing is he gains the zone with a lot of speed, and his teamates are behind, and he has nothing he can actually do except shoot the puck and he's not capable of scoring goals that way in any reliable manner.

Gallagher was cooked in the playoffs. No point pretending he has a role left to play.

I love Gallagher but that contract... Good for him for services rendered... that's all I can say. Terrible manner in which to hand out contracts. But like Savard he's a good example of a consumate pro at the end of his rope.

I didn't see anything different from Newhook in Avs. He could become a late bloomer once his NHL role becomes more clear.

I personally don't see him developing into an offensive threat, but I do see all the abilities of a good 3rd line 2 way forward who can chip in offensively with 3rd line expectations. He's still young and can learn a lot.

MSL sat several people, he could have sat Newhook as easily as anyone. Making up this nonsense that he does literally nothing good is just ridiculous.

Imagine trying to defend a fake center that played 15min+ average this season on the second line all year + 2nd unit PP and managed to get only 26 points in 82 while being completely useless on the dot or Defensively and even soft as Drouin

Meanwhile you say his line was better without Laine when Laine ended the season 33 points in 53 games while sucking heavily outside shooting the puck.

Mind Boggling how people gotta defend mediocrity just because he has 1 good attribute. Dude can't even pass the puck lmao

Habs dont need this kind of 1 trick pony player in the bottom 6. Useless waste of a roster space.

He's not a fake centre, he played the role he was put in. He obviously isn't as strong at centre as he is on the wing, it's not like he demanded to play centre but I know you wanna jump on the bandwagon to blame someone.

His line was significantly better without Laine, keep licking up those stats im sure you loved watching Laine stink it up 5v5. Meanwhile our PP also improved without him and the PP got worse while he was on it xD

Useful in the bottom 6. Great speed , good shot, solid on skates.

Did a great job improving his overall game and generating high quality chances.

Hopefully he can work on his mental game this summer and find that right level of calm intensity in tight to start finishing at a higher rate... Last spring's scoring touch + this spring's overall game would make him a very good top 6 winger or elite 3rd liner.
