Player Discussion Alex Killorn

It's odd though because it's not just where he's playing the lineup, it's truly his hands and decision making. He cannot successfully receive a pick, pass a puck, make a simple play, or shoot with any consistency/accuracy. It is as if he just stopped caring or trying and is counting the days until he gets his last paycheck. He is genuinely impacting the top 6 in a negative way as a result. Someone needs to have a spine and either drop him in the lineup or sit him for a game.
Yeah. Vatrano, this year, has been an offensive black hole in the sense that he's not producing but Killorn this season has been making our offense worse. He not only isn't producing but gives the puck up and can't get back to chase like at least Vatrano can.

I guess I'm a minority but I haven't thought he has been that bad. Not really more than anyone else. Yes he is making mistakes but it's not like anyone on the team really looks good. He's second on the team in +/- with a +3 so he may not be helping the team score much but he's not helping the other team either.

Plays have just died on his stick. He mostly hasn't been a negative, but he has absolutely kept the Ducks from getting or sustaining pressure.

You are in a minority, but you're not alone.

18 goals and 33 points now. And a team leading +10 on the year.

He’s such a clutch and responsible player for us and a helluva leader IMO

Sure he’s a little washed up but it’s easy to see why he had so much success in Tampa.

The best penalty killing forward we’ve had since Andrew Cogliano
Been solid his whole time here, he's always been a 40 or so point player outside of a couple of seasons even on those stacked Tampa teams so his production is only slightly down on his career average and like you said, he's an excellent PK forward. The hate he has had (and continues to get) on here is way overboard tbh.

As you said, he's really an important leader. Think having him in the locker room is invaluable experience for all the young players too, makes his contract more then worth it (same with Gudas). We've all seen what happens when you have a bunch of talented young players but no leaders (Buffalo).

Way waaaaaaaaaaaaay overboard. He's an important player and a really good signing.

The qualities mentioned above couples with his experience and poise on the ice are, I believe, the reason Cronin has stapled him to Leo all this time. I cannot think of any other player on the team who would be a better mentor for Leo and his development.

He's a great asset to have in the locker room and it would be good for him to spend some time with Leo, but Cronin has kept them together for way too long.

Despite his good qualities he is still by far the worst player on that line. The guy has missed more grade-A opportunities than Strome, and that's saying a lot.

I'll give him credit. His game has picked up a lot. I'm not gonna pretend his puck management wasn't really rough prior to these past couple months just like I won't pretend Terry didn't have an abysmal year with puck management last year.

But the guy has been skating better, he's made better plays with the puck than he has in the past and he's been really adept at cutting off passing plays along the boards. Defensively I have zero complaints. I don't know that I'd say he's in the upper echelon of defensive minded forwards but he's certainly one of the best on this team.

I'll also concede that he hasn't been as much of a drag on Carlsson as he was between November and January, even February. I don't think I'd say they've developed honest to god chemistry but the frequency of plays dying from them trying and failing to connect with each other has dropped substantially to where now it's more in line with the rest of the team just having shifts were offensive flow gets disrupted by defense or miscues. I'm not as concerned with getting Killorn off that line as I was earlier in the year.

My only concern is he's already at an age where most players start retiring. I don't know how much more juice he's going to have in the legs next year and beyond.
